Core Web Vitals Optimisation Manchester
Core Web Vitals optimisation targets the three loading, responsiveness and visual stability metrics Google records for real Chrome users. We help Manchester businesses whose Search Console report shows URLs marked poor or needing improvement, and we fix the specific causes behind each failing metric.

The three metrics and what counts as good
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures how long the biggest image or text block in view takes to appear; good is 2.5 seconds or less. Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how quickly the page reacts to taps, clicks and key presses; good is 200 milliseconds or less. Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures how much content jumps about; good is 0.1 or less. INP replaced First Input Delay in March 2024.
Each threshold is judged at the 75th percentile of visits, so a page passes when at least three quarters of real visits meet it. That comes out of field data in the Chrome UX Report, which also feeds the Search Console Core Web Vitals report. Lab tools such as Lighthouse help find causes, but they are not what Google assesses. Field data covers a rolling 28-day window, so improvements show gradually.
Google says page experience matters, but relevant content still comes first. Search-focused work belongs under technical SEO.
Who usually needs this work
Failing Core Web Vitals tend to cluster in certain kinds of site.
- Any site with URL groups flagged as poor in Search Console.
- Shops with large galleries and third-party widgets, common on ecommerce sites.
- JavaScript-heavy sites where the page looks ready but ignores taps.
- Businesses with mostly mobile visitors, where slower devices drag the 75th percentile down.
Our process for fixing failing metrics
Read the field data
Search Console and Chrome UX Report figures show which metric fails, on which device and for which URL groups.
Reproduce the problem
Chrome DevTools and Lighthouse reveal the LCP element, the long tasks blocking interaction and the elements that shift.
Fix metric by metric
Each failing metric gets its own changes, made on staging where possible.
Confirm in the lab
We re-run the same lab tests before anything goes live.
Validate in Search Console
We start validation and watch the field data as the 28-day window rolls forward.
What you receive
- Current LCP, INP and CLS field data for mobile and desktop.
- The LCP element and blocking resources for each key template.
- The long tasks and scripts behind poor INP.
- The elements causing layout shift, each with its fix applied.
- Search Console validation started, with a follow-up check.
Common causes of each failing metric
Slow LCP
The hero image is lazy-loaded or found late, the server responds slowly, or render-blocking CSS and fonts hold up the first paint. We give the hero image a high fetch priority, stop lazy-loading above the fold, size images properly and cut what blocks rendering.
Poor INP
Long JavaScript tasks tie up the main thread, often caused by chat widgets, heavy tag setups or event handlers doing too much at once. We defer non-essential scripts, break long tasks up and trim tags that fire on every click, which often means tidying your Tag Manager container.
High CLS
Images and iframes without dimensions, ad slots with no reserved space, banners that push the page down and fonts swapping in at a different size. We set dimensions, reserve space, show notices as overlays and match fallback font metrics.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Search Console still show poor URLs after the fixes went live?
The report uses a rolling 28-day window of real visits. Visits recorded before the fix stay in that window for a while, so figures improve as older data drops out. We check again once enough new visits have built up.
Why is my PageSpeed score different to my Core Web Vitals status?
The score is a lab result for one simulated load, while Core Web Vitals status reflects real visits at the 75th percentile, and they often disagree. Our PageSpeed and GTmetrix service covers the lab reports.
What happened to First Input Delay?
INP replaced it in March 2024. FID only measured the delay before the first interaction began to be handled. INP covers interactions across the whole visit up to the next screen update.
My site has no field data. What can you do?
Lower-traffic sites may not appear in the Chrome UX Report. We then rely on lab tests, and can add the open-source web-vitals library to send your own visitors’ LCP, INP and CLS values into Google Analytics.
Do I need to pass all three metrics?
Search Console rates each group of URLs by its weakest metric, so good LCP and CLS with poor INP still shows as poor. That is why we work through each metric separately rather than picking the easiest one.
