Travel App Development Manchester
We build travel and tour apps for tour operators, walking tour guides, visitor attractions and travel agents based in Manchester and beyond. Travellers carry their itinerary, offline maps and audio guides in one app, message their guide and hear about changes straight away, in the language they prefer.

Keeping travellers informed before, during and after the trip
Documents scattered across emails, PDFs and message threads cause most of the questions operators answer. An app holds the full itinerary for each booking: times, meeting points, hotels, transfers and contacts. When a coach is delayed or a meeting point moves, a push notification reaches the group at once.
Abroad, data roaming is patchy, so maps and guide content download before departure and work offline. For walking tours and attractions, audio guides can play automatically when a visitor reaches a stop, so people look at the building rather than the screen. Bookings can be made in the app, with payments handled through our payment gateway integration work, and travellers can message their guide or the office without swapping personal numbers.
Operators selling packages have obligations under the Package Travel Regulations. The operator remains responsible for meeting them, but the app can present the required pre-booking information clearly and keep a record of what the traveller saw. We build to your instructions and suggest you take legal advice on your own position.
Travel businesses we work with
Each kind of travel business needs something different.
- Tour operators running group trips who need itineraries and live updates for each departure.
- Walking and heritage tour guides offering self-guided routes with audio.
- Museums, gardens and visitor attractions wanting location-based audio and maps.
- Travel agents giving clients one place for all their booking documents.
- Activity and adventure providers sharing kit lists, safety briefings and meeting points, often alongside an events and ticketing app.
How we create a travel app
Follow a real trip
We study one of your tours end to end, noting every message and question along the way.
Plan content and languages
We agree which content is shared, which is per booking, and which languages launch first.
Design for travellers on the move
Screens suit quick glances in a busy station, with today’s plan one tap away.
Build offline maps and audio
We build downloadable maps, location audio and booking, then test with Wi-Fi switched off.
Field test the route
We walk or ride a real route with the app to check triggers, timings and battery use before launch.
Your travel app comes with
- iOS and Android apps in your brand.
- Per-booking itineraries with times, places and contacts.
- Offline maps with stops, meeting points and routes.
- Audio guides triggered by location, with manual playback as a fallback.
- In-app booking and payment for tours and extras.
- Messaging between travellers, guides and your office.
- Multi-language content and interface.
- An operator dashboard to publish trips and send change notices.
Making location audio and offline content reliable
Phones report position less accurately in narrow streets, so we set trigger zones generously and stop a clip replaying when a visitor lingers. Visitors can always tap a stop on the map to play it manually. We ask for location permission only when the tour starts, explain why, and use it only for the tour.
Offline packs are sized to download over hotel Wi-Fi without filling the phone. Each language is handled as separate content, and narration can be recorded in each one. If your website also needs to sell these tours, our ecommerce websites team can link web and app bookings to one system, and a hotel and guest app covers accommodation businesses.
Frequently asked questions
Will the maps work abroad without data?
Yes. Travellers download the maps and guide content for their trip before leaving, over Wi-Fi. Once saved, the maps, stops and audio work without a data connection, and the phone’s GPS still shows their position.
How do audio guides know when to play?
Each stop has a defined zone around it. When the phone’s location enters the zone, the matching clip plays. Visitors can also tap any stop to play it manually, which helps indoors or where location is less precise.
Can we update an itinerary after people have booked?
Yes. Changes made in the dashboard appear in travellers’ apps once they connect, and a notification tells them what changed. You choose whether a change goes to one booking, one departure or everyone.
Does the app handle Package Travel Regulations for us?
No. Compliance stays with the operator selling the package. The app can display the information you are required to provide and keep a record that travellers saw it, which supports the processes you already follow.
How many languages can the app support?
As many as you can provide content for. The interface and each tour are translated separately, travellers pick their language once, and you can add languages later without rebuilding the app.
