Sports Club App Development Manchester

We build apps for grassroots and amateur sports clubs in Manchester and across the North West, covering fixtures, team selection, subs, training and club news. Players, parents, coaches and volunteers each see the parts that apply to them.

Replacing the group chats and the fixtures spreadsheet

Plenty of clubs still run on a tangle of group chats, a shared spreadsheet and a treasurer chasing match fees in cash. A club app gives each team its fixture list with results, and lets the manager ask who is available, pick a squad and notify the players selected in one go.

Match fees and annual subs can be paid by card in the app or set up as Direct Debit through a payment provider, and the treasurer sees who has paid. These are real-world memberships rather than digital content, so they can use normal payment providers instead of in-app purchase.

Training sessions show venue and time, club news goes out as notifications, kit orders collect sizes and names, and volunteer rotas cover the tea bar, line marking and refereeing. Larger clubs with formal renewals and member cards may also want our membership app features.

Clubs this is designed around

Club admin looks much the same across sports.

  • Junior football and rugby clubs with many age-group teams and parents doing most of the admin.
  • Cricket clubs fielding Saturday league sides, Sunday friendlies and midweek nets.
  • Netball, hockey and basketball clubs entering teams in local leagues.
  • Running and cycling clubs organised around group sessions rather than fixtures.
  • Multi-sport community clubs sharing one ground, each section with its own teams.

How we build a club app

1

Map the club structure

We list sections, teams, age groups and roles such as coach, team manager, welfare officer and treasurer.

2

Agree who sees what

Permissions are set per role, so contact details and junior information reach only the people who need them.

3

Design for parents first

In junior sections parents do the replying and paying, so their screens get the most testing.

4

Build fixtures and payments

Availability requests, selection, results, subs and kit orders are built and tested with club volunteers.

5

Launch before the season

One or two teams use the app in pre-season, then the rest of the club joins.

What the club gets

  • iPhone and Android apps for players, parents and coaches.
  • Web admin for the club secretary and section leads.
  • Fixtures and results entered by team managers.
  • Availability requests and squad selection with notifications.
  • Subs and match fee collection with payment status.
  • Parent accounts linked to junior players.
  • Kit orders and volunteer rotas with reminders.

Junior players, parents and safeguarding

Junior sections change the design. Under-age players are normally managed through a parent or guardian account, which receives selection notices and pays fees. Where children use the app themselves, the ICO Children’s code applies: high privacy settings by default, location settings off by default and no nudges to share more.

Coaches cannot message junior players privately. Messages go to parents, or to a team channel the club welfare officer can read. Your sport’s national governing body sets safeguarding policy, and we configure the app around it rather than our own assumptions.

Each player record carries a photo consent setting, so team pictures are not posted for players without consent. We set data handling up in line with published ICO guidance; take legal advice for your club. Groups with a broader community role may also find our community app page useful.

Frequently asked questions

Can one parent manage several children at the club?

Yes. A parent account can link to any number of players across different teams and age groups. Availability requests, payments and notices for every child appear in one place, and a second parent or carer can be added to share the admin.

Can the app collect annual subs by Direct Debit?

Yes, through a Direct Debit provider connected to the app. Members sign the mandate inside the app, and the treasurer sees who is set up and who has missed a payment.

Will it pull fixtures from our league?

It depends on the league. If it publishes fixtures in a format we can read automatically, we import them. Otherwise team managers add fixtures in a couple of taps, and results entered in the app can be shared to the club website.

Who can see players’ phone numbers and addresses?

Only roles that need them. A team manager sees contact details for their own squad, the welfare officer sees junior records, and other members see names only. Every role is set in the admin and can be changed when volunteers change.

Can we sell club kit through the app?

Yes. Members choose items, sizes and any name or number printing, then pay by card. Orders are grouped into a list the kit secretary sends to your supplier when each order window closes.
