Meditation App Development Manchester

We build meditation and wellbeing apps for teachers, studios and publishers in Manchester and around the UK. Audio comes first: guided sessions that keep playing with the screen locked, download for offline listening and are simple for your team to add to as the library grows.

An app built around listening, not looking

People rarely watch a meditation app. They press play, lock the phone and put it down. Background playback and lock-screen controls are therefore basic requirements, along with resuming cleanly after a phone call. Downloads let someone listen on a train or a plane with no signal.

A sleep timer fades audio out and stops it after a chosen time. Streaks and reminders support regular use, so we keep them low-pressure: reminders are scheduled by the user, and streaks can be hidden entirely. A private journal lets people write a few lines after a session.

Behind the app, a content system lets your team upload sessions, assign narrators, durations, themes and series, and mark what sits in the free tier. Spoken-word libraries share much with music and podcast apps, where background audio is also central.

Who we make these apps for

Most clients already hold recorded audio and a listening audience.

  • Meditation teachers with a back catalogue of guided sessions.
  • Studios adding audio practice alongside a yoga app or class timetable.
  • Publishers and podcasters with spoken-word wellbeing series.
  • Employers offering staff a library of guided sessions as a workplace benefit.
  • Faith organisations sharing recorded reflections and contemplative audio.

How a meditation app comes together

1

Set the content boundaries

We agree in writing what the app offers and what it does not, and draft the support screen that signposts professional help.

2

Prepare the audio

Recordings are levelled to a consistent volume, encoded for streaming and download, and split into chapters where useful.

3

Build the player first

Background playback, lock-screen controls, interruptions and the sleep timer are tested on real phones before anything else.

4

Configure free and paid tiers

We decide which sessions are free and set up subscriptions through store billing.

5

Review wording and submit

Every title, description and notification is checked for claims, then we submit with clear reviewer notes.

What we deliver

  • iPhone and Android apps.
  • Audio player with background playback, lock-screen controls and interruption handling.
  • Offline downloads with storage management.
  • Sleep timer, optional streaks and user-set reminders.
  • Private, encrypted journal.
  • Content system for sessions, series and narrators.
  • Free tier with store-billed subscriptions.

Wellbeing content, not therapy

A meditation app offers guided audio and reflection tools. It is not a clinical service and does not replace a GP or counsellor. We say so in onboarding, in the store listing and on a support screen reachable from every page, which points people to professional help such as their GP, NHS 111 and Samaritans.

Apple looks more closely at apps that touch on health, so session titles describe content, for example a ten-minute breathing exercise, and never what the session will do for the listener. We keep outcome language out of the app, its metadata and its notifications.

Journal entries can hold very personal information and may count as special category data under UK GDPR. They are encrypted, never used for advertising and deleted with the account. We follow published ICO guidance; take legal advice for your situation. Our app store submission service handles the review stage.

Frequently asked questions

Will sessions keep playing when the phone is locked?

Yes. Background audio and lock-screen controls are built in on both iPhone and Android, including play, pause and skip. If a call interrupts a session, playback pauses and the user can carry on where they stopped once the call ends.

How does a free tier work alongside subscriptions?

You mark sessions as free or members-only in the content system. Free listeners can browse the full library and see what a subscription includes, and paid access runs through App Store and Google Play billing, with restore-purchase so members keep access on a new phone.

Can we add new sessions without an app update?

Yes. New sessions, series and narrators are added through the content system and appear in the app straight away, or on a date you schedule. App updates are only needed for new features, not new audio.

Why does the app need a support screen?

Some users may open a wellbeing app when they need more than guided audio. A clear screen pointing to professional services shows the app knows its limits, and store reviewers look for responsible handling in apps near health.

Are journal entries private?

Yes. Entries are encrypted, visible only to the user, and never read by your team or used for advertising or analytics. Users can export or delete them at any time, and deleting the account removes them permanently.
