How products get into Google Shopping
Merchant Center holds your product data and checks it against Google’s policies. Since 2020, approved products can appear in free listings on the Shopping tab and other Google surfaces, and the same feed powers paid Shopping ads run through Google Ads. Without Merchant Center, products are eligible for neither.
Data arrives as a product feed generated from your WooCommerce or Shopify store. Each product needs an id, title, description, link, image link, price and availability, plus GTIN and brand where those exist. Missing or mismatched values are the commonest reason for disapproval.
Google checks your website too. The domain must be verified and claimed, and shipping and returns settings must match what the site says. Feed prices and stock should agree with the product page and its structured data, which is why we review schema markup during setup.
Shops we set Merchant Center up for
Any business selling physical products online.
- WooCommerce shops that have never connected a feed
- Shopify stores whose products keep being disapproved
- Retailers suspended for misrepresentation who need a review
- Brands about to start Shopping ads that need a clean feed first
- Large catalogues where feed errors are hard to track by hand
- Shops that changed platform and lost their connection
How we get your products listed
Account and verification
We create or audit the account, verify and claim your website, and link Google Ads if you use it.
Shipping and returns settings
Delivery rates, delivery times and returns policy are entered to match your website exactly.
Build the product feed
A feed from WooCommerce or Shopify is connected, with every required attribute mapped, including GTIN and brand.
Match site and feed
Product pages, prices, stock and structured data are checked so Google sees identical values everywhere.
Clear product issues
We work through every disapproval and warning Merchant Center reports.
Opt in and monitor
Free listings are switched on, Shopping ads linked if wanted, and the account is watched for new issues.

Disapprovals and suspensions we fix
Most problems fall into a few groups.
- Price or availability mismatch: the feed and page disagree, often because of caching or sale prices
- Missing identifiers: branded products without GTIN, or own-brand items not marked as having none
- Image problems: placeholders, watermarks or promotional text over the photo
- No shipping rate set for the country being targeted
- Misrepresentation: an account suspension when Google cannot confirm who runs the business, or finds policies and contact details unclear
- Unclaimed website: the domain link lost after a platform change
Misrepresentation cases take the most work. They usually need a clear About page, full contact details with a physical address, plain delivery and returns terms and a checkout without surprises before a review is requested. We fix what we find and submit the review, but the decision rests with Google.
Frequently asked questions
Are Google Shopping listings free?
Approved products can appear in free listings at no charge. Shopping ads are a separate, paid placement managed through Google Ads. Many shops start with free listings, then add ads once the feed is clean and approved.
Do my products need GTINs?
If a product has a manufacturer GTIN, such as the barcode number on a branded item, Google expects it in the feed. Handmade, custom and own-brand products often have none, and the feed can state that. Leaving out GTINs that do exist is a frequent problem.
Why was my account suspended for misrepresentation?
Google uses this when it is not satisfied a shop is trustworthy, often because contact details, policies or pricing are missing or inconsistent. The notice rarely names the exact trigger, so we review the whole site against Google’s policies before requesting a review.
Can you connect a Shopify store?
Yes. Shopify’s Google channel can send products to Merchant Center. We check its mapping, fill missing attributes using metafields and resolve the issues it reports. For WooCommerce we use a feed plugin or a scheduled feed file.
How long until my products appear?
Google reviews new accounts and products before showing them, and sets the timing itself. We cannot hurry that, but a feed that is correct first time avoids the delays caused by repeated disapprovals and resubmissions.
