Conversion Tracking Setup Manchester
Conversion tracking records the actions that bring in business: enquiry forms, calls, WhatsApp chats and paid orders. We set it up for Manchester businesses spending on Google or Meta ads who cannot yet tell which clicks turn into customers, and we test every conversion before handing over.

Counting the actions that pay the bills
Page views tell you people arrived. Conversion tracking tells you what they did next: sent a quote request, tapped your phone number, opened a WhatsApp chat or completed a purchase with an order value. Without it, ad platforms optimise towards clicks alone.
Each action needs a reliable signal. A form should count on confirmed submission, not on a button press that may have failed validation. Click-to-call and WhatsApp clicks are measured as taps on tel: and wa.me links, which record intent rather than a finished call. Purchases should carry value, currency and an order ID so they can be matched and deduplicated.
Ad platforms add their own layers. Google Ads uses a conversion tag, and enhanced conversions send hashed customer details such as an email address alongside it to improve matching. Meta uses the Pixel in the browser plus the Conversions API on the server; when both send the same event, a shared event ID lets Meta deduplicate them. Many of these actions also become GA4 key events.
Businesses that need this most
Anyone paying for clicks should be able to see what those clicks produce.
- Trades and service firms whose leads mostly arrive by phone or WhatsApp.
- Online shops running Shopping or Meta ads that need purchase values, often alongside Merchant Center.
- B2B firms whose deals close weeks later in a CRM.
- Anyone whose ads account shows zero conversions, or suspiciously many.
How we build and test your tracking
List the actions
We agree which actions count as primary conversions.
Choose the signal
For each action we pick the trigger: a thank-you page, a dataLayer event, a link tap or a server event.
Build the tags
Google Ads conversions with enhanced conversions, Meta Pixel and Conversions API with event IDs, and GA4 key events, usually in Tag Manager.
Respect consent
Consent mode is configured so tags follow each visitor’s cookie choice.
Test every conversion
We submit real test forms, tap links on a phone and place a test order, then confirm each one in Tag Assistant and Meta Events Manager.
Connect offline outcomes
Where useful, CRM outcomes such as a won deal are imported back into Google Ads against the original click ID.

- A test log showing each conversion firing correctly.
Where conversion counts usually go wrong
Most broken setups we inherit fail in predictable ways. Thank-you pages that count again on every refresh. Button-click triggers that fire even when the form rejects the entry. Pixel and Conversions API both sending purchases with no shared event ID, so Meta reports double.
Counting settings matter as well. For lead forms, Google Ads should usually count one conversion per click, while purchases should count every one. And a cookie banner that blocks all tags without consent mode leaves large gaps; our cookie consent setup deals with that side.
Frequently asked questions
Can you track phone calls made through my website?
We track taps on your phone number links, which shows intent to call. Recording whether a call connected or how long it lasted needs a call tracking service with its own numbers. We can discuss that if you need it.
Should WhatsApp clicks count as leads?
They are a strong signal but not every chat becomes an enquiry. We usually set them up as a conversion you can see, then decide with you whether ad platforms should optimise towards them or treat them as secondary.
Is it safe to send customer details for enhanced conversions?
The details are hashed before they leave the site, and only sent where the visitor has consented. You should mention it in your privacy notice. We set it up in line with published guidance; take legal advice for your own situation.
Why do Google Ads and GA4 report different conversion numbers?
They use different attribution models, counting settings and dates. Google Ads credits the date of the ad click, while GA4 reports the date of the conversion. Some difference is expected; large gaps usually mean a tagging fault.
Do I need the Conversions API if I already have the Meta Pixel?
Browser blocking and short cookie lifetimes mean the Pixel alone misses some events. Adding the Conversions API sends the same events server-side, and the shared event ID stops them being counted twice.
