Payment Gateway Integration Manchester

A payment gateway is the service that takes card and wallet payments on your website and passes the money to your bank. We connect Stripe, PayPal, Square and similar gateways for Manchester businesses, on shops, booking forms and invoices, with security checks and order updates working correctly.

What a proper payment integration involves

Adding a pay button is simple. Making sure every payment updates the right order, handles failures and refunds cleanly, and passes UK card security checks is where integrations go wrong. Under Strong Customer Authentication, many UK card payments need an extra step, usually 3D Secure, where the bank asks the customer to approve in their banking app. A checkout that cannot handle it sees payments declined.

The safest setup keeps card details off your server entirely. With a hosted payment page or embedded fields supplied by the gateway, the card number goes straight to the gateway and your site only receives a token. That keeps your PCI DSS scope small, often to the shortest self-assessment questionnaire, SAQ A, though your gateway or bank confirms which one applies.

Orders also rely on webhooks. When a payment succeeds, fails, is refunded or disputed, the gateway messages your site, which updates the order. Without working webhooks you get paid orders stuck on pending.

Who needs payment integration work

Anyone taking money online, through a shop, a booking form or an invoice.

  • WooCommerce shops adding Apple Pay, Google Pay or a second gateway
  • Service firms taking deposits when a booking is confirmed
  • Clubs and subscription businesses needing recurring payments
  • Businesses that want a payment link on every invoice
  • Custom-built sites needing a gateway connected through its API
  • Shops seeing declines or orders stuck on pending

How we connect your gateway

1

Pick the right gateway

We look at what you sell, how customers pay and your platform, then recommend Stripe, PayPal, Square or a mix.

2

Build in test mode

Everything is connected in test mode first, using test cards that trigger approvals, declines and 3D Secure challenges.

3

Configure webhooks

Signed webhook endpoints are set so order status, refunds and disputes update your site automatically.

4

Add wallets and extras

Apple Pay and Google Pay are switched on, with subscriptions, deposits or payment links where needed.

5

Go live and check

We switch to live keys, make a real low-value payment, refund it, and confirm money and order records match.

What you get

  • A gateway using hosted or embedded fields, with no card data stored on your server
  • 3D Secure working for UK cards
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay where your gateway supports them
  • Signed webhooks keeping order statuses accurate
  • Refunds tested from your site or gateway dashboard
  • Subscriptions, deposits or payment links if required
  • Notes on handling refunds and disputes

Payment features we often add

Beyond a basic card checkout, these are the requests we hear most.

  • Deposits: take part of the price at booking and the balance later, common for events, trades and made-to-order goods
  • Subscriptions: monthly or yearly billing with automatic retries when a card fails
  • Payment links: a link sent by email or WhatsApp for an invoice or quote, with no website checkout needed
  • Saved cards: returning customers pay without retyping details, with the card held by the gateway, never by you
  • Two gateways: cards through Stripe plus PayPal as an alternative, both feeding one order system
  • App payments: a gateway wired into your app backend for bookings and physical orders

Frequently asked questions

Which gateway is best for a UK business?

It depends on your platform and customers. Stripe is flexible and widely supported, PayPal is familiar to many shoppers, and Square suits businesses that also take cards in person. Many shops offer cards through one and PayPal as a second option.

Will card details be stored on my website?

Not the way we set things up. Hosted pages or gateway fields send card details straight to the gateway, and your site keeps only a reference. You still complete whichever PCI DSS questionnaire your gateway or bank asks for, but the scope is much smaller.

Why are some customers’ payments being declined?

Common causes are missing 3D Secure support, address checks set too strictly or an outdated gateway plugin. Card issuers also decline for their own reasons. We read the gateway logs to see which applies and fix what sits on your side.

Can you fix orders stuck on pending after payment?

This is usually a webhook fault: the gateway took the money, but the message telling your site never arrived or was rejected. We check the webhook logs in the gateway dashboard, repair the endpoint and reconcile any affected orders.

Who opens the gateway account?

The account is opened in your business name, because the money goes to you. We guide you through sign-up, tell you what details the gateway will ask for, and take over the technical side once it is approved.
