Website Bug Fixing Manchester
Something on your website has broken and you need it working again. Our Manchester developers fix existing sites: white screens, “critical error” messages, contact forms that stop sending, layouts that fall apart on phones and checkouts that fail. We find the cause in the logs first, so the same fault does not come back next week.

Finding the cause, not just hiding the symptom
Most website faults have a specific trigger. A plugin update, hosting change or PHP upgrade can each break something that worked yesterday. Switching plugins off at random may hide an error without explaining it.
We start with evidence. The PHP error log, the browser console and the server access log usually point to the file, plugin or request at fault.
Wherever possible we reproduce the fault on a staging copy. Customers never see a half-finished fix. If the fault turns out to be malware, we move the job to our WordPress malware removal process instead.
Who calls us with a broken site
Bug fixing suits anyone with a working site that has developed a fault.
- Owners whose original developer has moved on and is no longer answering.
- Shops losing orders because the checkout or payment step throws an error.
- Service businesses that realise enquiries stopped arriving weeks ago.
- Sites that broke after the host moved them to a newer PHP version.
Our repair process
Describe and reproduce
You tell us what you see and when it started. We try to reproduce the fault and note which pages and devices are affected.
Back up first
We take a full backup of files and database before touching anything, so there is always a way back.
Read the logs
Error logs, console messages and recent update history narrow the cause down to a plugin, theme, setting or server change.
Fix on staging
We apply the fix on a copy, test the affected feature and check nothing nearby has broken.
Deploy and explain
The fix goes live, we test again, and you get a plain-English note on what failed and why.
What you get after a fix
- The fault repaired on your live site and retested.
- A short written explanation of the root cause.
- A backup taken before work began.
- Details of any plugin, theme or setting we changed.
- A list of other issues we spotted but left for your decision.
Faults we fix most often
These come up repeatedly on WordPress and WooCommerce sites.
- White screen or “There has been a critical error”: usually a fatal PHP error in a plugin or theme, often after an update.
- Contact forms not sending: the server’s PHP mail is rejected or lands in spam. We route mail through an authenticated SMTP service and check the domain’s SPF and DKIM records.
- PHP upgrade errors: older code using functions that newer PHP versions removed. We update or replace the code rather than holding the site on an unsupported version.
- Mobile layout broken: fixed widths or page builder settings that only apply on desktop.
- 404 errors and broken links: changed URLs with no redirect, found with a crawl and fixed with 301s.
- Checkout errors: payment gateway settings, expired API keys or caching on cart pages.
Sites that break often usually need regular care, which our maintenance plans cover.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you look at my broken website?
We look at urgent faults, such as a site that is down or a checkout that fails, as a priority and tell you when work will start. We confirm timing once we have seen the problem.
What access do you need to fix it?
Usually a WordPress administrator login plus hosting control panel or SFTP access, because a site showing a critical error may not let anyone into the dashboard. We recommend creating separate accounts for us that you can remove afterwards.
Why have my contact form emails stopped arriving?
Often the form still works but the email is rejected by the receiving server because it is sent without authentication. Changes at mail providers and missing SPF or DKIM records are common causes. We send mail through SMTP and test delivery to more than one inbox.
Can you fix a site another developer built?
Yes. Most of our bug fixing work is on sites we did not build. We keep the original structure where it works and avoid rewriting more than the fault needs.
Is it worth fixing or should I rebuild?
Most faults are worth fixing. If a site keeps breaking because it runs abandoned plugins or a theme that no longer receives updates, we will say so honestly and explain the options, including a redesign, so you can decide.
