What Search Console shows that nothing else does
Search Console is Google’s own view of your site: which pages it has indexed, which it has left out and why, which searches showed your pages, and any security or manual action problems. Analytics sees visitors after they arrive; Search Console sees what happened in Google before the click.
Setup starts with the property type. A domain property covers every subdomain and both http and https in one place, and is verified by adding a DNS TXT record with your domain registrar or DNS host. A URL-prefix property covers one exact address, such as https://www.example.co.uk/, and can be verified with an HTML file or meta tag. We normally set up a domain property and add URL-prefix properties where a section needs its own view.
Once verified, we submit your XML sitemap, link the property to Google Analytics 4, and add the site to Bing Webmaster Tools, which can import sites directly out of a Search Console account.
Who needs it set up properly
Every site should have it, but these situations make it urgent.
- New websites at launch, so indexing can be watched in the first weeks.
- Businesses that lost access when a developer or agency moved on.
- Sites going through a redesign or URL change.
- Owners receiving Search Console emails they do not understand.
- Businesses running several subdomains or regional sections.
How we set up Search Console
Check existing access
We look for old properties and verified owners, and remove former staff or suppliers who no longer need access.
Verify the domain
We add the DNS TXT record with your DNS host, or send exact instructions if you manage DNS yourself.
Submit the sitemap
We check the XML sitemap lists only live, indexable URLs before submitting it.
Connect GA4 and Bing
The property is linked to Google Analytics, and Bing Webmaster Tools is set up alongside.
Walk you through it
A short screen-share shows you the reports and which emails need action.
What is set up for you
- A verified domain property under your own Google account.
- Your XML sitemap submitted and read without errors.
- A cleaned-up list of users with appropriate permission levels.
- Search Console linked to GA4.
- Bing Webmaster Tools verified with the sitemap submitted.
- A short written guide to the reports worth checking monthly.
The reports we check first
The Page indexing report lists every reason a page is not indexed. Some are expected, such as “Page with redirect” or “Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag”. Others need a look, including “Crawled – currently not indexed”, “Discovered – currently not indexed” and “Duplicate without user-selected canonical”. Not every excluded page is an error, and we explain which ones matter on your site.
URL Inspection shows how Google sees a single page and lets you run a live test after a fix. The Performance report lists queries with clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, which is an average across every impression, so it moves around more than people expect.
We also check the Core Web Vitals report, Security issues and Manual actions. Deeper indexing problems belong to technical SEO work.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use a domain property or a URL-prefix property?
A domain property is usually better because it covers every subdomain and protocol together. It needs DNS access to verify. URL-prefix properties are useful when you cannot change DNS or want a separate view of one section.
I cannot get into my DNS settings. Can you still verify the site?
Yes, with a URL-prefix property verified by an HTML file or meta tag on the site. We can also work with your registrar or IT provider to add the TXT record so you get the fuller domain property later.
Does submitting a sitemap get my pages indexed?
A sitemap helps Google find your pages, but indexing remains Google’s decision. Pages that are thin, duplicated or blocked may still be left out. The Page indexing report then tells you why.
Is Bing Webmaster Tools worth setting up too?
Yes. Bing runs its own index and has its own users, and setup adds little extra effort once Search Console is in place. Its reports sometimes flag different problems too.
Who will own the Search Console property?
You will. We verify it under your business Google account and add ourselves as a user. If you ever change supplier, you remove our access in a couple of clicks and keep all the history.
