App Redesign Manchester

An app redesign fixes the screens people struggle with, without throwing away what already works. We help Manchester businesses with live iOS and Android apps find where users drop off, redesign those parts and release the changes carefully.

What an app redesign involves, and what it should not break

A redesign starts with evidence, not taste. Store reviews tell you what annoys people in their own words. Analytics show where they give up: a sign-up form abandoned halfway, a checkout that loses people at the address step. Those points set the priorities.

The new design then follows each platform’s conventions. Apple publishes the Human Interface Guidelines and Google publishes Material Design 3, so navigation, controls and gestures should feel familiar on each phone. Where a full rebuild of the code is also needed, our cross-platform development team can handle both.

What must not change is your users’ access. People should stay signed in after updating, and their history, settings and saved items should still be there.

Apps that benefit most

Owners across Manchester usually come to us when an app works technically but is not being used as hoped.

  • Apps with steady downloads but few people returning after the first week.
  • Ecommerce and booking apps losing users before the final step.
  • Apps built years ago that now look out of place next to current iOS and Android.
  • Apps with accessibility complaints or text that breaks at larger sizes.
  • Products that have grown feature by feature with inconsistent screens.

Our redesign process

1

Review the evidence

We read store reviews, support messages and analytics to find the screens where users stall or leave.

2

Test with users

We watch a few target users attempt key tasks on the current app and note where they hesitate.

3

Redesign and prototype

We redesign the problem flows as a clickable prototype and test them again before development.

4

Build the design system

Colours, type styles, spacing and components are defined once, so new screens stay consistent.

5

Release in stages

The update goes out gradually, with crash and analytics monitoring, so problems can be caught early.

What you get

  • A findings report on drop-off points and usability issues.
  • Recorded notes from user testing sessions.
  • Redesigned screens and a clickable prototype.
  • A documented design system for future work.
  • An accessibility check against platform settings.
  • A staged release plan and post-release review.

Accessibility and a careful rollout

Accessibility is often where older apps fall short. We test with Dynamic Type on iPhone, so text grows with the user’s chosen size without clipping. We check screens with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android, making sure buttons have labels and the reading order makes sense. Colour contrast is checked so text stays legible, and tap targets are large enough to hit.

Release is the other risk. Apple offers phased release for App Store updates, and Google Play offers staged rollout to a percentage of users you choose. Both let a new version reach a share of people first. If crash reports or reviews show a problem, the rollout can be paused while it is fixed. Our app maintenance service keeps watching after that.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to rebuild the app to redesign it?

Usually not. Most redesigns change screens and flows on top of the existing code. A rebuild only makes sense if the codebase itself is the problem, for example an outdated framework that blocks updates. We tell you which applies after reviewing the code.

Will existing users lose their data or be logged out?

They should not. We keep the same accounts, tokens and stored data, and test the update by installing it over the current live version on real devices. Where data must move to a new format, we write a migration that runs quietly on first launch.

Should the iPhone and Android versions look identical?

They should share your brand, content and flows, but follow each platform’s own patterns for navigation, controls and back behaviour. Users expect an Android app to feel like Android. A shared design system keeps both versions consistent where it matters.

How many users do you test with?

A handful of people who match your audience is usually enough to reveal the main problems on a given flow. We run short sessions, ask them to complete real tasks and note where they get stuck, then retest the redesigned version the same way.

Can you redesign an app another agency built?

Yes. We review the code and current design first, so we know what can be changed safely. You will need to give us access to the source repository and the store accounts for the release.
