Restaurant Ordering App Development Manchester

We build order-at-table and order-ahead apps for restaurants, cafes and bars in Manchester. Guests scan a QR code at the table, browse your menu, choose options and pay on their phone, while the order goes straight to the kitchen without a server writing it down.

Taking orders at the table without the queue at the till

A restaurant ordering app removes the slowest part of service: waiting to order, then waiting again to pay. Each table carries a QR code tied to its table number, so the kitchen knows where every plate is going.

The menu is where most of the work sits. Dishes need modifiers (steak cooking preference, swap fries for salad, oat milk), free-text notes, and rules about which items are available at which hours. Order-ahead uses the same menu for customers who want their coffee ready when they walk in.

Allergen information matters more on a screen than on paper, because nobody is standing there to ask. UK food information rules require allergen details to be available before the customer commits, and the Food Standards Agency publishes guidance for food sold at a distance. We show it on each dish before the order button. If you also deliver, our takeaway app service covers that side.

Venues that get the most out of table ordering

Table ordering suits venues where keeping staff on the floor matters more than a long, formal service.

  • Busy cafes and brunch spots, where order-ahead clears the counter queue.
  • Pubs and bars with food, where guests reorder drinks without leaving their seat.
  • Food halls with several kitchens, where one basket splits orders by vendor.
  • Hotel restaurants, which can share menus with a hotel guest app.
  • Casual dining groups with several sites that want one menu system.

How we get your menu onto the table

1

Walk the floor

We watch how orders move between the table and the pass, and note where tickets get lost.

2

Structure the menu

Dishes, modifiers, allergens and time-based availability go into a menu manager your staff can edit.

3

Connect the kitchen

Orders are routed to a kitchen display or ticket printer, and to your EPOS where its API allows.

4

Test a live shift

We run a trial service with your team and adjust the flow before launch.

5

Print and launch

QR codes are generated per table and the app goes live in the stores and as a web link.

What arrives at the end of the build

  • A guest ordering app for iPhone and Android, plus a browser version that needs no install.
  • Unique QR codes for every table.
  • A web menu manager with sold-out toggles.
  • Kitchen display screens or printer routing by station.
  • Apple Pay, Google Pay and card checkout with optional tipping.
  • Sales reports by table, hour and site.

Details that make or break a table ordering app

Most complaints about QR ordering trace back to a handful of details. We plan for each one.

  • Sold-out items: one tap hides a dish across every table, so nobody orders the last portion twice.
  • Course timing: the kitchen can hold mains until the first course is cleared.
  • Bill splitting: each guest can pay for their own items or a share of the total.
  • Staff override: servers can add, void or comp items on a tablet.
  • Weak signal: pages are kept light so the menu still opens in a basement dining room.

Some groups also add a loyalty scheme, so every paid order earns points.

Frequently asked questions

Do guests have to download an app to order at the table?

No. The QR code opens a fast web version of the menu in the phone’s browser, so a first-time guest can order without installing anything. Regulars can install the store app for saved favourites.

Can the app send orders to our existing till system?

Often, yes. Many EPOS systems used in UK hospitality publish an API for orders and menus, and we check yours early on. Where there is no usable API, orders go to a kitchen display or printer instead.

How do you handle allergens in the ordering flow?

Each dish carries its allergen data, shown before it can be added to the basket. We set this up in line with FSA guidance, but checking recipes and keeping the data accurate stays with your kitchen team.

Can we still have servers taking orders as normal?

Yes, and many venues run both. Servers use a staff tablet view of the same menu, so guest and staff orders land in one queue. Guests who prefer talking to a person are never forced onto their phone.

Do we pay commission on each order?

No commission comes to us. You own the app and its data. Card payments go through a payment provider of your choice, which charges its own processing fees, and we give you a fixed quote for the build before work begins.
