WordPress Maintenance Manchester
WordPress maintenance is the routine work that keeps a site updated, backed up and working month after month. We look after WordPress sites for Manchester businesses that would rather not run plugin updates themselves, and give you one team to call when something stops working.

Why a WordPress site needs regular care
A typical site runs WordPress core, a theme and a stack of plugins, each released by a different developer on its own schedule. Updates fix security holes and keep things compatible, but they can also clash. Pressing “update all” on a live site and hoping is how owners end up with a blank page or a broken basket.
So we test first. Updates go onto a staging copy, we check the pages and functions that matter, then apply them live with a fresh backup taken just before. When your host retires an old PHP version, the site is tested on the new one the same way.
Maintenance also catches slow decay: forms that stop delivering email, links to pages that no longer exist, a database swollen with old revisions. Checked monthly, these stay small.
Who maintenance suits
Anyone whose website matters to the business but who does not want to become a WordPress administrator.
- Trades and service firms whose contact form brings in most enquiries
- WooCommerce shops that cannot risk a broken checkout after an update
- Owners whose original developer has gone quiet
- Marketing teams needing small edits without starting a project
- Sites relying on booking, membership or multilingual plugins
- Businesses with a new WordPress website they want kept in good order
What happens each month
Backup before changes
A full backup of files and database is stored off the server before any update runs.
Updates tested on staging
Core, theme and plugin updates are applied to a staging copy and checked for errors and layout problems.
Live updates and tests
Approved updates go live, then we load key pages, submit test forms and run a test order on shops.
Health and link checks
We review uptime history, scan for broken links and read error logs for early warnings.
Tidy and small edits
Old revisions and expired transients are cleared from the database, and the small content changes you sent are made.
Monthly summary
A short email lists what was updated, what we checked and anything needing your decision.
Included in the plan
- Tested core, theme and plugin updates
- Off-site backups before every update
- Uptime monitoring with alerts to our team
- Form and checkout tests after changes
- Planned, tested PHP version upgrades
- Broken link and error log checks
- An agreed allowance of small content changes
- A named contact when something breaks
When something breaks between updates
Even with careful updates, things go wrong. A host changes a server setting, a payment provider changes its API, or someone on your team installs a plugin. You contact us directly rather than joining a ticket queue.
Because we know the site, hold recent backups and log every change, the cause is usually quick to trace. If an update is to blame, we roll that plugin back and then work on a proper fix. Bigger jobs are quoted before we start. Some work sits outside routine care:
- Redesigns and new features, scoped as projects
- Sites already hacked before care began, which need malware removal first
- Deeper speed work, covered by WordPress speed optimisation
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my current hosting?
Yes. We work with most hosts as long as we have WordPress admin access plus control panel or SFTP access. If your hosting is causing problems we will say so, but moving is never a condition of maintenance.
Why not just switch on automatic updates?
Automatic updates are fine for minor WordPress security releases. For plugins and themes they apply changes with nobody checking the result, so a conflict can sit unnoticed until a customer reports it. Staging tests catch those conflicts first.
What counts as a small content change?
Updating opening hours, swapping an image, adding a team member or editing a paragraph. New pages, layouts or features are quoted separately. We agree the monthly allowance with you at the start so nothing is unclear.
Will you look after a site someone else built?
Most sites we maintain were built elsewhere. We begin with an onboarding review of plugins, users, backups and hosting so we know what we are taking on, and we tell you about anything risky we find.
Do I keep control of my site and logins?
Always. The site, domain, hosting and every account stay in your name. We use our own user accounts so access can be removed cleanly, and if you move on we hand over backups and notes.
