A fundraising app that respects donors and your trustees

A charity app earns its place by making giving easier for loyal supporters. One-off gifts, regular giving, appeals and event sponsorship sit in one app, and campaign updates show what a donation achieved.

The app stores have specific rules for charities. Apple allows approved nonprofits to fundraise inside their own apps using Apple Pay, while other organisations have to send donors out to a web page. Google Play has its own donation policies, which we check before submission. For card processing, our payment gateway integration work connects the app to your chosen provider.

Gift Aid lets you reclaim basic rate tax on eligible gifts, but only with a valid declaration. HMRC rules set what it must capture, including the donor’s name, home address and confirmation that they are a UK taxpayer. The app stores this with each gift for a clean claim file.

Charities that benefit most

An app suits charities whose supporters come back again and again.

  • Local charities with a loyal donor base who give several times a year.
  • Hospices and care charities that depend on regular monthly giving.
  • Animal rescues sharing updates on the animals supporters sponsor.
  • Food banks and community kitchens recruiting and organising volunteers.
  • Overseas aid charities launching emergency appeals.

How a charity app comes together

1

Review your fundraising mix

We look at how supporters give today and where an app adds something a website does not.

2

Confirm platform rules

We check Apple’s nonprofit route, Google Play policy and your payment provider before designing giving screens.

3

Design consent and Gift Aid

We build clear Gift Aid wording and separate marketing consent choices into the sign-up and giving flows.

4

Build and test donations

We build the apps and admin area, then run test gifts end to end, including refunds.

5

Launch to core supporters

Trustees, staff and committed donors try it first, then we support the public launch.

Deliverables for your charity

  • iOS and Android apps published under your charity’s name.
  • One-off and regular giving, with Apple Pay and Google Pay where permitted.
  • Gift Aid declaration capture and an export for your HMRC claims.
  • Volunteer sign-up with role choices and availability.
  • Consent records for email, text and push marketing.
  • An admin area for fundraisers to post appeals without developer help.

Fundraising rules we design around

The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice sets standards for how charities ask for money, including treating donors fairly and respecting their wishes. In an app that means no pressure screens, clear descriptions of what a regular gift involves, and easy ways to change or stop it. We also design to PECR, which requires consent for most marketing by email and text. Each consent choice is separate, unticked by default and stored with the date it was given. We set this up in line with published guidance, and you should take legal advice for your situation.

Trustees care about running overheads, so we use modest hosting, avoid add-ons that grow with every supporter, and let your team edit content without a developer. An app maintenance plan covers operating system updates. If your charity also has a faith or local community base, see our separate community apps page.

Frequently asked questions

Can donors give inside the app on iPhone?

Yes, if your charity is approved under Apple’s nonprofit route, donors can give in the app using Apple Pay. Without approval, the app opens a secure giving page in the browser instead. We help you understand which applies before design starts.

How does Gift Aid work through the app?

When a donor gives, the app asks whether they want to add Gift Aid and shows the required declaration wording. Their answer, name and home address are stored with the gift. Your team exports eligible gifts for the HMRC claim.

Can supporters manage their own regular gift?

Yes. Supporters can change the amount, pause or cancel a regular gift in the app without phoning the office. Making it easy to stop a gift is part of treating donors fairly under the Code of Fundraising Practice.

Will the app work with our CRM?

Many charity CRMs accept data through an API or scheduled import. We map donations, Gift Aid status, consent and volunteer details into your CRM so supporter records stay in one place.

Is an app worth it for a modest supporter base?

Sometimes a good website giving page does the job better. We will say so honestly. An app makes most sense when supporters return often, volunteer regularly or follow ongoing campaigns.
