Shopify Store Setup Manchester

Shopify is a hosted store platform, so you get an online shop without managing servers or software updates. We set up Shopify stores for Manchester businesses, from choosing and customising the theme to importing products, connecting payments and moving across from another platform with redirects in place.

How a Shopify store comes together

Shopify works as a subscription service. It hosts the store, applies security updates and runs the checkout, while you manage products and orders in its admin. That suits businesses that want to sell rather than maintain software. The trade-off is working within Shopify’s structure and adding some features through apps.

Online Store 2.0 themes use sections and blocks, so most pages can be rearranged in the theme editor without code. We choose a theme that fits your catalogue, then customise sections, colours and templates until it looks like your brand rather than a demo. Products are imported by CSV and grouped into manual or automated collections based on tags, type or price.

Apps are where many stores slip. Each one adds scripts to your pages, and a store carrying dozens can feel sluggish. We install only what you need, after checking whether the theme already does the job, and a PageSpeed and GTmetrix check shows which scripts cost the most.

Who Shopify works well for

Sellers who want a stable, hosted store with little technical upkeep.

  • Product brands opening their first online shop
  • Retailers selling in person who want shop and till stock to match
  • Businesses with nobody to handle WordPress updates or hosting
  • Marketplace sellers who want their own store alongside
  • Shops leaving an old platform that has become hard to maintain

Our Shopify setup process

1

Store plan and theme

We map products, collections and pages, then select an Online Store 2.0 theme that fits.

2

Theme customisation

Sections, templates, navigation and branding are set so every page type looks finished.

3

Products and collections

Products are imported by CSV with variants, images and SKUs, and grouped the way customers browse.

4

Payments, shipping and tax

Shopify Payments or another gateway is connected, shipping profiles and rates are created, and tax reflects your VAT position.

5

Domain, policies and apps

Your domain is connected, refund, privacy and terms policies are added, and only essential apps go in.

6

Test and launch

We place test orders, check emails and mobile layouts, and add redirects when migrating.

Your store at launch

  • A customised Online Store 2.0 theme in your branding
  • Products, variants and collections imported and checked
  • Payments connected and tested
  • Shipping profiles covering every zone you deliver to
  • Tax settings matching your VAT registration
  • Your own domain connected over HTTPS
  • Refund, privacy, shipping and terms policies published
  • A redirect map for old URLs and a handover session

Shopify or WooCommerce?

We build on both, so we have no reason to push either. The choice comes down to how you want to run the shop.

Shopify suits you if you want the platform to handle hosting, security and checkout updates, your products fit a standard catalogue, and you are happy adding features through apps.

WooCommerce suits you if the shop must sit inside a content-heavy WordPress site, you need unusual product or pricing logic, or you want full control of code and hosting. See WooCommerce setup for that route.

Switching between them is possible either way. The main job is keeping old URLs working: Shopify uses fixed patterns such as /products/ and /collections/, so every old address needs a redirect to its new one.

Frequently asked questions

Can you move my existing shop to Shopify?

Yes. Products and customers can usually be exported from the old platform and imported by CSV, and past orders can often move too, depending on the source. We map every old URL to its new Shopify address so links and search listings keep working.

Do I have to use Shopify Payments?

No. Shopify Payments is the simplest option where available, but other gateways such as PayPal can run alongside it or instead. Shopify may add transaction fees when a third-party gateway replaces Shopify Payments, so we explain the options before you decide.

How many apps will my store need?

Usually fewer than people expect. Features once added by apps, such as size charts or product tabs, can often be built with theme sections and metafields. We add an app only when the theme cannot do the job, and check its effect on speed.

Can I edit the store myself after launch?

Yes. Shopify’s admin and theme editor are built for owners. We show you how to add products, rearrange homepage sections and process orders, and leave written notes for the tasks you will do less often.

Can Shopify handle UK VAT?

Yes. Shopify can show prices including or excluding VAT and display tax on invoices. We configure it to match your registration, but your accountant should advise on your VAT position, especially if you sell abroad.
