Technical SEO Manchester
Technical SEO is the hands-on work that lets search engines crawl, render and index your pages properly. Our Manchester team fixes the faults an audit uncovers: redirect chains, duplicate URLs, noindex mistakes, sitemap errors and pages Google has chosen to leave out. It is for sites whose content is sound but whose plumbing is holding it back.

Fixing what stops search engines reading your site
Before a page can appear in search results, a crawler has to find it, fetch it, render it and decide it is worth indexing. Problems at any stage keep pages out. A SEO audit lists those problems. This service is the follow-on: we change the settings, templates and server rules until the issues are resolved.
The best evidence comes straight out of Google Search Console. Its Page indexing report groups excluded URLs by reason, such as “Crawled, currently not indexed”, “Duplicate without user-selected canonical” or “Excluded by noindex tag”. Each reason points to a different fix. Server logs add another view, showing which URLs Googlebot actually requests and how often.
We are clear about limits. Technical fixes remove barriers, but where a page ranks also depends on content, links and competition, so we report on what changed rather than predicting positions.
Sites that benefit most
Technical problems grow with size and complexity.
- Online shops whose filters and sort options create thousands of parameter URLs.
- Sites that have moved platform or domain and left redirect chains behind.
- JavaScript-heavy sites where content only appears after scripts run.
- Businesses with large numbers of pages excluded in Search Console.
- Multi-language sites that need hreflang set up correctly.
How we work through the fixes
Crawl and baseline
We crawl the site, export Search Console data and, where available, pull server logs to see the current state.
Prioritise by impact
Issues affecting many URLs or key commercial pages go first. Cosmetic warnings wait.
Fix in templates
Changes are made at template or server level where possible, so they apply site-wide and survive new content.
Validate in Search Console
We use the URL Inspection tool and Validate Fix to ask Google to recheck affected pages.
Monitor and report
We track indexing counts and crawl stats over the following weeks and report what moved.
Deliverables
- A prioritised issue log with status for each item.
- Corrected robots.txt and XML sitemaps.
- Canonical tags set consistently across templates.
- Redirect chains and loops collapsed to single 301s.
- Parameter and filter URLs controlled.
- Search Console validation requests submitted.
- A before and after summary of indexing figures.
The technical issues we fix most
- robots.txt mistakes: rules that block CSS, scripts or whole folders by accident. Our robots.txt generator shows the syntax.
- Sitemaps listing the wrong URLs: redirected, noindexed or non-canonical pages that confuse crawlers.
- Canonical conflicts: tags pointing at the wrong version, or contradicting the sitemap and internal links.
- Redirect chains and loops: several hops after each migration, slowing crawling and losing users.
- Noindex left on: a staging setting carried to the live site, or applied to the wrong post type.
- Deep pages: important pages buried many clicks down with few internal links. Our on-page SEO work strengthens those links.
- JavaScript rendering: content or links that only exist after scripts run, checked with the rendered HTML in URL Inspection.
Frequently asked questions
How is technical SEO different to an SEO audit?
An audit is a diagnosis: it finds and ranks the problems. Technical SEO is the treatment: we make the changes in your CMS, templates and server configuration, then check Google has picked them up. Many clients start with an audit and move straight into the fixes.
Why does Search Console say my pages are not indexed?
The Page indexing report gives a reason for each excluded URL. Some are normal, such as redirected pages. Others, like pages crawled but not indexed or duplicates without a chosen canonical, usually need action. We read the reasons and fix the ones that matter.
Do I need hreflang tags?
Only if you serve different versions of pages for different languages or countries. A single-language UK site does not need them. Badly configured hreflang causes more harm than having none, so we only add it where there is a real need.
Will technical fixes improve my rankings?
They remove obstacles, which often helps pages get indexed and crawled efficiently. Rankings also depend on content quality, links and competitors, so we do not predict positions. We report on indexing, crawl stats and search performance in Search Console.
Can you work on Shopify or other platforms?
Yes, within each platform’s limits. WordPress gives full control. Shopify fixes some URL structures, though its robots.txt and theme templates can still be edited. We explain what is changeable before quoting.
