Being noticed on Hyde’s shopping streets
Footfall in Hyde gathers around the market and the Clarendon Square shopping centre, and people walking between them make quick decisions. A fascia needs a name readable from across the road and a short line saying what you do.
Food and drink businesses also need signs that work after dark, which might mean built-up letters with halo lighting, trough lights over the fascia or an illuminated projecting box. Manufacturers and trade suppliers have a different need: a sign visible from the road or yard entrance so drivers and couriers find the right door. Signs may need advertisement consent from the council, especially when illuminated or in a conservation area, and we check this with you before anything is made. Your landlord’s permission may also be needed.
The sign types and materials we use are described on our shop signs Manchester page.
Surveying and fitting at your Hyde premises
Every sign job starts with a visit. We measure the fascia and window areas, look at what sits behind the existing sign, check whether the wall, render or timber will hold fixings, and note where power can reach any lighting. We also look at access, whether a ladder is enough or a tower is needed, and where a van can park. We travel out from M8, a run of 25 to 30 minutes or so via the M60 and M67 when traffic is kind. Design and artwork approval then happen by email and WhatsApp, the sign is made through our production network, and our fitters come back to install it.
From survey to fitted sign
Survey the frontage
We take measurements and photos, check fixing points and access, and talk through what you want the sign to say.
Mock up the design
Your design is placed on a photo of your actual shopfront, so you can judge size and colour.
Check consent and permissions
We go through with you whether advertisement consent or landlord approval is likely to be needed before anything is ordered.
Make the sign
Materials are chosen for the position, for example aluminium composite for a flat fascia or acrylic letters for a raised finish.
Fit and tidy
Our fitters remove the old sign where agreed, fix the new one, seal the edges and clear up. Any lighting is connected by a qualified electrician.

What we check first on a Hyde shopfront
- What is behind the old fascia. Older shops often hide rotten timber or several layers of earlier signs. We open up a corner where possible.
- The height and line of the street. A fascia that sits well with the units on either side looks deliberate.
- Glass you are not using. Windows can carry opening hours, a phone number and a list of services. Salons, clinics and care offices often want frosted vinyl for privacy at desk height.
- Space on the pavement. A-boards help shops set back from the main flow, but pavement boards may need permission too, so we raise it before you order one.
For the main board itself, see our fascia signs, and for glass, our window graphics service.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fit signs at a unit inside a managed shopping centre?
Yes. Managed centres often have their own signage rules and want designs approved by the management before fitting. Send us any guidance your landlord has given you, and we will design to it and supply drawings for approval. Fitting times inside centres are agreed with the management.
Do you make signs for market traders in Hyde?
We do. Traders usually need lightweight signs that go up and come down each day, such as printed banners with eyelets, a correx header board or a printed tablecloth front. We match them to your fascia so customers recognise you.
Can you reuse the frame from our old sign?
Sometimes. If the existing tray or subframe is sound and square, we can fit a new face over it, which reduces the work involved. If the survey finds rust, rot or loose fixings, we will explain why replacing it is the safer choice.
How long will a printed fascia keep its colour?
That depends on the vinyl, the laminate and how much direct sun the frontage gets. We use outdoor-grade vinyl with a protective laminate, and we tell you the manufacturer’s expected outdoor life for the materials we quote. A gentle wash with soapy water keeps it looking clean.
