Getting noticed in a busy town centre

Bury Market and the shopping around The Rock and the Millgate centre bring a steady flow of people through the town, but footfall alone does not mean they notice you. A shopper walking past has a second or two to read your name and work out what you sell. A sign with too many words, thin lettering or low contrast loses that moment, however good the shop is inside.

Many frontages here sit in older buildings, with timber fascia boards, stone surrounds or shutter boxes taking up space above the window. Each of those changes what can be fixed where and how big the lettering can be. Signs may need advertisement consent from the council, especially when illuminated or in a conservation area, and we check this with you before anything is made. Your landlord’s permission may be needed too.

The design and fitting standards match our shop signs in Manchester, with every frontage measured individually.

Surveying and fitting at your premises

Signs cannot be planned from a photo alone. One of our team visits your shop by arrangement, measures the fascia and window, checks the condition of the wall or board, finds secure fixing points, notes cable routes for any lighting, and looks at access, including whether a ladder will do or a tower is needed. The drive is roughly 25 to 35 minutes from our office on Bury New Road, depending on traffic.

Design work and artwork sign-off then happen by email and WhatsApp, or at our M8 office if you prefer to see samples in person. Production goes through our production network, and our fitters install the finished sign.

From survey to sign on the wall

1

Site survey

We measure, photograph and check fixings, access and power, then send a fixed quote.

2

Design visuals

You receive mock-ups of the sign placed on a photo of your actual frontage, so you can judge size and colour in context.

3

Consent and permissions

We talk through whether advertisement consent or landlord approval is likely and supply drawings if an application is needed.

4

Production

Once you sign off the final artwork, the sign is made through our production network in the agreed materials.

5

Fitting

Our fitters remove the old sign if needed, install the new one securely and tidy up afterwards.

Included in your shop sign order

  • An in-person survey with measurements and fixing checks
  • Design visuals on a photo of your own shop front
  • Material advice for aluminium composite, acrylic or built-up letters
  • Guidance on whether consent or landlord permission may be needed
  • Removal of the existing sign where agreed
  • Installation by our fitters, with cabling arranged for lit signs

What we check first on a Bury shop front

  • The fascia board Rotten timber or loose render needs fixing before a new panel goes up, or the sign will not stay secure.
  • Old fixings and holes Removing a previous sign often leaves marks that a new panel should cover neatly.
  • Reading distance On a narrow street people read from a few steps away, while a wider road needs larger letters seen from across it.
  • Light after dark Takeaways and bars open into the evening may suit illuminated signs, which need a safe power supply nearby.
  • The glass Opening hours, services and a phone number often sit better on the window. Window graphics carry that detail without crowding the fascia.
  • Shutters and canopies We check the sign will not clash with a shutter box or awning when either is open.

Frequently asked questions

Will you come out to Bury to measure before giving a final price?

Yes. We visit by arrangement and measure everything in person, because photos hide things like uneven walls, old fixings and awkward access. You can send pictures first for a rough idea, but the fixed quote follows the survey so there are no surprises when the sign arrives.

I run a stall at Bury Market. Do you make signs for stalls too?

We do. Market stalls usually need light, portable signs such as printed banners, panels that hang from the frame or a compact board for the front. We can match them to your shop or van branding so customers recognise you wherever you trade.

What material should my fascia sign be?

Aluminium composite panel is the common choice: flat, weather resistant and easy to print or apply vinyl to. Built-up acrylic or metal letters give a more premium look on a painted board. We recommend one based on your building and how long you plan to stay.

Can the old sign stay up until the new one is fitted?

In most cases, yes. Our fitters take the old sign down on the day of installation, check the board behind it and fix the new one straight away, so you are not left with a blank frontage for days while you trade.
