WordPress Maintenance Altrincham

WordPress maintenance is ongoing care for a site that already works: tested updates, regular backups, monitoring and the small edits that keep it current. We look after sites for Altrincham salons, clinics, estate agents, solicitors and food businesses that want the website handled while they get on with running the business.

Why sites in the town drift out of date

Plenty of local websites were built for an opening or a rebrand and then left alone. The design still looks fine, so nobody notices the booking plugin is two major versions behind or the host warning about an old PHP version. Left for a year, small jobs like these become one awkward afternoon where nothing updates without something else breaking.

Appointment-led businesses feel this most. A salon or clinic off George Street that takes bookings online loses them quietly when a calendar plugin stops syncing, and an estate agent’s property feed can stop importing without any visible error. Cafes around the Market House need menus changed at short notice. Our WordPress maintenance service in Manchester exists to catch these things on a schedule, before a customer has to point them out.

Looking after your site from Cheetham Hill

Almost all of the work happens remotely. We use our own named WordPress logins and SFTP or control panel access, and keep you informed by email, phone or WhatsApp, with a screen share when something is easier shown than described. To meet the people looking after your site, our M8 office is roughly 35 to 45 minutes from Altrincham by road via the A56 or the M60, depending on traffic, or we can visit you by arrangement.

How each month runs

1

Off-site backup first

Files and database are copied to storage away from your host before any change, so a bad update can be rolled back rather than rebuilt.

2

Updates tried on staging

Core, theme and plugin updates are applied to a private copy, and we read the changelogs for anything touching bookings, forms or payments.

3

Live update and spot checks

Once staging looks right, updates go live and we load the home page, booking page and contact form, and place a test order if you sell online.

4

Monitoring and logs

Uptime alerts come to our team, and we read the PHP error log and the Site Health screen for warnings before they become faults.

5

Edits and housekeeping

We make the content changes you sent in, clear old revisions and spam comments, and remove plugins nobody uses.

6

A plain monthly note

You get a short email listing what changed, what we tested and anything that needs a decision from you.

Included in ongoing care

  • Updates tested on staging before they reach the live site
  • Off-site backups kept for an agreed period, with restores checked
  • Uptime monitoring with alerts going to our team
  • Form, booking and checkout tests after every round of updates
  • PHP upgrades planned and tested with your host
  • An agreed allowance of small content changes each month
  • A direct contact rather than a ticket queue

What tends to break quietly on an Altrincham business site

None of these faults shows on the home page, which is why they go unnoticed.

  • Contact form emails sent through the host’s PHP mail function and landing in spam, until proper SMTP sending with SPF and DKIM records is set up.
  • Premium plugin licences that lapsed, so the plugin stopped receiving updates while still appearing to work.
  • Booking or calendar plugins that lost their link to Google Calendar after someone changed a password.
  • Cookie banners that no longer hold back analytics scripts until consent, after an update reset the settings.
  • WP-Cron tasks, such as scheduled posts or property imports, silently stalling on low-traffic sites.

If we find signs of a hack while onboarding, maintenance pauses and the site needs a malware clean first. Backups that have never been restored successfully are a job for our backup and restore service.

Frequently asked questions

Our clinic site was built by a freelancer who has moved on. Can you take it over?

Yes, that is common. We begin with an onboarding check of plugins, themes, user accounts, hosting and backups, list anything risky, and agree what needs fixing before monthly care begins. You keep ownership of the site, domain and hosting throughout, and we work through separate accounts.

Will someone come to our Altrincham office to explain the monthly report?

We can, by arrangement, and some practices like a yearly sit-down to plan bigger changes. Most months the short email is enough. You are always welcome at our office in Cheetham Hill as well.

Do updates happen during our opening hours?

Live updates are scheduled for quiet times that suit your trade, often early in the week before evening bookings or weekend orders pick up. Because each update has already been tested on staging, the live step is short, and we check the key pages straight afterwards.

What if a plugin we rely on is abandoned by its developer?

We tell you as soon as we spot it, usually because updates stop or it is pulled from the WordPress.org directory. We then suggest a maintained replacement, test the swap on staging and move your settings across, quoting first if it is more than a routine change.
