WordPress Maintenance Hyde

WordPress maintenance is the steady, scheduled care that stops a website drifting out of date: updates checked before they go live, backups kept off the server and someone watching for faults. We look after sites for Hyde retailers, manufacturers, trade suppliers and care providers who have better things to do than patch plugins.

Keeping a Hyde business website in working order

Many WordPress sites we take on in Hyde were built once and then left alone. A trade supplier might have a catalogue site from years ago, on a theme its designer no longer supports. Nothing looks wrong from the front, yet the plugins are versions behind and the host is about to retire its PHP version.

Care providers show a different pattern: several staff log in to post vacancies, and plugins get added without anyone keeping a record. Retailers around Hyde Market and Clarendon Square mostly need opening times and contact details kept correct, and a contact form that actually delivers.

Maintenance handles this on a regular cycle rather than in a panic, using the care plan behind our WordPress maintenance service in Manchester. It is not a hacked-site clean-up: if a site is already infected, malware removal in Hyde comes first.

Working with you from across the M67

Day-to-day care needs no visits. We use a WordPress login of our own plus hosting or SFTP access, and you send change requests by email, phone or WhatsApp, with a screen-share when showing is easier. For a handover from a previous developer, a face-to-face chat can help: come to our M8 office, roughly 25 to 30 minutes away via the M60 and M67 depending on traffic, or we can visit you by arrangement.

What a care cycle looks like

1

Take stock of the site

We list every plugin, theme, user and licence, check the hosting, and note anything already out of support.

2

Back up off the server

Files and database are copied to separate storage before any change.

3

Update a private copy

Core, plugins and theme are updated on staging first, where we look for PHP warnings, layout breaks and failed scripts.

4

Apply live and test

Approved updates go live, then we send a test enquiry through each form and place a test order on shops.

5

Watch between rounds

Uptime monitoring alerts our team if the site goes down, and we read the error log and scan for broken links.

6

Report in plain words

A short monthly note covers what changed, what we tested and anything needing your decision.

Included in a Hyde care plan

  • Core, theme and plugin updates checked on staging first
  • Off-site backups of files and database on a rolling schedule
  • Uptime alerts sent to our team, not just your inbox
  • Form delivery and checkout tests after each round
  • Planned PHP upgrades when your host retires a version
  • An agreed allowance of small edits, such as opening hours or vacancies
  • One named person who knows your site

Renewals and settings that lapse without anyone noticing

Plenty of site failures come from something expiring quietly. On sites we take over, we check these first and add them to a renewal calendar.

  • Premium plugin licences. Paid form builders and WooCommerce add-ons stop getting updates when a licence lapses, often on the card of someone who has left.
  • Domain renewal. We confirm who holds the domain account and that auto-renew is on, since a lapsed domain takes email down too.
  • SSL certificates. Free certificates renew automatically until a DNS change breaks the renewal and visitors see a warning.
  • Email sending. Forms using the server’s own mail often land in spam. An SMTP plugin with SPF and DKIM records makes delivery far more dependable.
  • Backups nobody has restored. A plugin can report success for months while saving incomplete files. We test a restore on staging, and our backup and restore service covers larger recoveries.

Frequently asked questions

Can we meet you in Hyde before signing up?

Yes. Most owners are happy with a video call where we look at the site together, but we can arrange a visit to your premises, or you can come to our office in Cheetham Hill. Either way, the onboarding check happens before monthly care begins.

Staff at our Hyde care service all share one WordPress login. Is that a problem?

It makes changes impossible to trace, and one leaked password exposes everything. During onboarding we set up named accounts with the lowest role each person needs, switch on two-factor login and remove former staff.

When do the updates actually run?

At a time agreed with you, usually a quieter part of your week. Routine updates are batched monthly, while an urgent security release for a plugin you use goes on sooner, after a quick staging check, and we tell you what changed.

What happens if an update breaks something anyway?

A backup is taken just before each round and every change is logged, so we can roll back the plugin responsible quickly and then work on a proper fix. You reach us directly, not through a ticket queue, and bigger repairs are quoted first.
