Website Security Audit Sale

A website security audit is a structured check of how well your site is protected, written up as a report with fixes in order of importance. We carry them out for businesses in Sale, especially clinics, salons and professional practices whose websites hold client details or take bookings online.

Why a Sale clinic, salon or practice should check its site

Therapists, clinics and salons in Sale often collect names, phone numbers and sometimes health notes through booking and enquiry forms. Accountants and other professional services may run client portals or accept document uploads. When those entries are stored in the WordPress database, the website itself holds personal data, and protecting it is part of looking after your clients.

Home-based businesses carry a different exposure. The site often sits on a basic shared plan, was built by someone who has moved on, and has one admin login shared around the household. Nothing has gone wrong, so nobody has looked.

An audit looks before anything goes wrong. It is not a clean-up of a hacked site, which is our malware removal in Sale, and it is not a penetration test unless we agree one in writing. Our Manchester security audit page sets out the wider method.

Running the audit with you, mostly online

You give us a temporary administrator account and limited hosting access, both of which you can delete once the report arrives. Most checks only read information, so the site keeps taking bookings while we work. Findings are then explained on a video call with the screen shared.

If you would rather discuss the report face to face, come to our office in M8 or we can arrange to see you in Sale. The drive takes about half an hour, sometimes a little longer at busy times.

What the audit covers, in order

1

Agree the scope

We confirm which domains, staging copies and forms are included, and what we must not touch.

2

List software and versions

Core, theme and plugin versions are matched against vulnerability databases such as WPScan and Patchstack, and abandoned plugins are flagged.

3

Check people and logins

Every user and role is reviewed, along with two-factor login, limits on failed attempts and any application passwords.

4

Test the server side

We look at the PHP version, file permissions, XML-RPC, directory listing, TLS settings and the security headers your server sends.

5

Follow the personal data

We trace where form entries are stored and for how long, and restore your latest backup to a private copy to confirm it works.

6

Report and explain

Findings arrive ranked by risk, each with a plain fix, and we walk you through them.

Your audit pack

  • A written report with findings ranked high, medium and low
  • Outdated or vulnerable plugins and themes, with what to do about each
  • A list of every account and which ones should lose admin rights
  • Notes on where form submissions and client details sit on the site
  • Server, header and PHP findings in plain English
  • The outcome of the backup restore test
  • An optional fixed quote if you want our team to carry out the fixes

Questions every Sale business should be able to answer about its website

Try answering these yourself. If several draw a blank, an audit is worth having.

  • Who has administrator access today, and does every one of them still work with you?
  • Is two-factor login switched on for anyone who can publish or install plugins?
  • Where are your backups kept, and has anyone ever restored one?
  • Which booking or form plugin stores client details, and are old entries ever deleted?
  • Does every page load over HTTPS without mixed-content warnings?
  • Does your cookie banner actually block tracking scripts until a visitor agrees?

Certificate and redirect issues are handled by our SSL and HTTPS set-up work, and a banner that loads trackers too early is fixed through cookie consent set-up.

Frequently asked questions

We see clients at home in Sale and family members run the website. Is an audit worth it for a site this size?

Often more so. Smaller sites tend to have shared logins and untested backups, which are quick to fix once spotted. The audit is scoped to your site, so a brochure site with one enquiry form needs far less time than a shop.

Could you explain the findings to our staff at our premises in Sale?

Yes, by arrangement. A short session at your premises suits practices where several people log in, since fixes usually involve passwords, two-factor apps and admin rights. Our M8 office or a video call work too.

Our booking plugin stores client notes. Will the audit look at that?

Yes. We check where those notes are stored, who can read them and how long they are kept. We follow published ICO guidance, but the report is not legal advice, so take advice on your own obligations.

What happens if you find the site is already hacked?

We stop, tell you straight away and explain what we saw. A hacked site needs cleaning before hardening makes sense, so we quote for that separately and finish the audit afterwards.

Will the checks slow down or break the live site?

No heavy scanning runs against your live site without your agreement. Most checks simply read settings and versions, and anything that writes data, like the restore test, happens on a separate private copy.
