Mobile App Development Didsbury

Mobile app development for Didsbury businesses weighing up whether they need one at all. We answer that question first, because a good many ideas are better served by a fast website, and then build in stages you can install and judge as we go.

Who an app actually suits around here

The honest test is how often somebody would open it. A clinic or salon whose clients rebook every few weeks has a reasonable case, because the appointment, the history and the reminders all live in one place people return to. A restaurant on Burton Road visited twice a year does not, and a well built mobile site will serve those customers better with nothing to install.

Estate and letting agents sit in between. A public property search app competes with the national portals and usually loses, but an app for your own tenants, handling repairs and documents, is used constantly by people who already have a reason to install it. Professional services firms more often need something internal: staff recording work away from the office with no signal to rely on.

We talk this through before quoting anything. Our mobile app development in Manchester begins the same way, and the same team builds for Didsbury.

How a build feels from your side

Mostly remote, and deliberately visible. At the end of each stage you install the current version on your own phone and use it, so you are judging something real instead of approving a document. Changing direction early costs very little.

For anything used by staff out on jobs we want one visit to watch the work as it is really done. Our Cheetham Hill office is open to you, or we come over, about 30 to 35 minutes down Wilmslow Road or the A5103.

The stages

1

Test the idea

Who opens it, how often, and what fails if they do not. If a website does the job better we say so before you commit.

2

Fix the first version

One thing done properly beats five half finished. We write down what is in and what is deliberately left until later.

3

Draw the screens

You see the actual screens before anything is built, which is the point at which changes are free.

4

Build where you can watch

Every stage ends with something installable. Nothing is kept hidden until a reveal at the end.

5

Test on real handsets

Older phones, weak signal, interrupted sessions. That is where apps fail, not on a new device in an office.

6

Publish and keep it running

We handle the App Store and Play listings, the review process, and the updates when the operating systems move on.

What is handed over

  • An app for iOS and Android, from one codebase unless there is a reason otherwise
  • Screens agreed with you before building rather than after
  • Sensible behaviour with no signal, saving work and sending it later
  • Store listings prepared, submitted and shepherded through review
  • Source code and store accounts held in your name
  • A written note of what the first version intentionally leaves out

The question to settle before anything else

An app has to be installed, and that is a genuine barrier. Anything used once a year will be deleted when the phone fills up. So we separate the two cases: is this for customers, where the install has to be earned every time, or for your own team, where you can simply require it and the maths is much easier.

For internal tools the case is usually clear, because the paper and the retyping already cost more than the build. For customer facing ideas we push back harder, and a progressive web app often delivers most of the benefit with nothing to download. Where the idea is sound but large, an MVP build tests it before the full commitment.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need two separate apps for iPhone and Android?

Rarely. We normally build one codebase producing both, which keeps later changes manageable. Where something leans heavily on one platform we will explain the trade-off rather than quietly decide it for you.

Would a booking app actually get used by our clients?

It depends entirely on how often they come back. Regular appointments give people a reason to keep it. Occasional visits do not, and in that case we would steer you towards a booking page that works well on a phone instead.

Who owns the finished app?

You do. Store listings go in your business name and the source code is yours. We will not hold either as a way of keeping your custom, and we hand over everything another developer would need to take it on.

What happens when Apple or Google change the rules?

Both update their requirements regularly and an app left alone will eventually stop being accepted. We can look after that for you, or hand over clear notes so your own developer can. Either way you should plan for it rather than be surprised.

Also building in Chorlton, Cheadle and Stockport

We take this work across south Manchester, so mobile app development in Chorlton, Cheadle and Stockport describe the same service. The rest of what we do locally is on the services in Didsbury page.

Describe what you have in mind and we will tell you straight whether an app is the right answer. Ask for a quote, ring 0161 315 1151 or message 07737 902425.
