Questions & answers

Rigid Boards: your questions answered

Quick answers

Which materials are available for rigid boards?

Six are listed: 3mm, 5mm and 10mm Foamex, 3.5mm and 5mm Correx, and 3mm Di-Bond. 5mm Foamex is the standard specification. Each behaves differently in weight and stiffness, so if you are unsure which suits your site, our sign makers in Manchester can advise on the best board.

What sizes can I order rigid boards in?

Twelve sizes run from A4 and A3 up to A0, plus 500 x 700mm, 600 x 600mm, 700 x 1000mm, 1000 x 500mm, 1000 x 1000mm, 20x30 inch and 30x40 inch. That covers door signs through to large site panels. For a size not on the list, send it through Get a Quote.

How much does a rigid board cost?

Prices start at £23.21 for one board on the cheapest combination of size, material and finishing. Larger sizes, Di-Bond, double-sided printing and lamination all move the total, and the configurator shows the live price as you choose. Compare other options in the signage and boards range.

Can rigid boards be printed on both sides?

Yes. The Sides Printed dropdown offers Single Sided or Double Sided. Double-sided boards suit signs hung in the middle of a space or fixed to open fencing, where people pass on both sides. For a hanging sign above an entrance, our shop signs service covers fixed projecting signs.

Can you drill holes for fixing?

Yes, the Drilling dropdown offers No, Top corners or All corners. Top corners suits a board hung from hooks or cable ties, and All corners suits screwing flat to a wall or fence. If you need holes elsewhere, describe the layout through our contact page.

How quickly are rigid boards produced?

Typical production is around 3 working days. That is a guide, not a promise, and delivery time comes on top unless you collect. For site signage tied to a project start date, allow a little extra time. Nearby towns we serve are listed on areas we cover.

What does Profile Cut mean?

Profile Cut set to Yes means the board is cut to a custom outline, such as the shape of your logo, rather than a straight rectangle. Set it to No for standard square edges. For shaped graphics on vehicles instead, see our vehicle decals service.

Which material should I pick for a building site?

Correx (3.5mm or 5mm) and 3mm Di-Bond are both on the Material list, alongside three Foamex thicknesses. The page doesn't give weather figures for each board, so tell the team how long the sign must last and where it will hang via a quote request.

How does 3mm Foamex compare with 10mm Foamex?

Both are Foamex, but 10mm is more than three times as thick, giving a chunkier board with more presence. 3mm is the slimmest and lightest of the three. 5mm sits between them and is the standard pick. For lighter indoor displays, see Foam Board Signs.

When is 3mm Di-Bond worth the extra cost?

Buyers tend to pick Di-Bond for longer-term signs, such as a panel at a business entrance or company details outside an office. Switch the Material dropdown to compare its live price against Foamex and Correx. For signage fitted on site, our fascia signs service covers mounted shopfront panels.

Should I add lamination?

Lamination offers Matt (One Side), Gloss (One Side) or None. Matt cuts down glare under bright lights or sunshine, while Gloss gives a shinier look to colours. Lamination is applied to one side only, so bear that in mind with double-sided boards.

Which size suits a door or office sign?

A4 and A3 are common for doors, reception areas and room names. 600 x 600mm works well for square logos or safety notices on walls. For a full range of compliant workplace notices, see our safety signs Manchester service.

Can I profile cut a double-sided board?

The Profile Cut and Sides Printed dropdowns are separate, so you can select both and the configurator will price the combination. If your shape is complex, such as a detailed logo outline, mention it to the team before ordering through the contact page.

Are rigid boards suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, they are used for site safety information and branding as well as indoors. The page doesn't say how each material copes with weather, so if your board will face strong weather for months, tell the team where it will go and ask which of the six boards to choose.

Can I use rigid boards at a trade show?

Yes, they work as product panels, price boards and hanging signs on a stand. Drilled top corners make them easy to hang from a stand frame. For the main stand backdrop, see our exhibition graphics page or Roller Banners.

What do 10 rigid boards cost?

On the cheapest combination, 10 boards cost £45.31 and 20 boards cost £69.12. Your own size, material, lamination and drilling choices set the real figure, which the configurator shows live. Multiple boards with the same design are useful for site perimeters and branch rollouts.

How much are 100 rigid boards?

The cheapest combination for 100 boards is £265.10, and 1000 come to £2,405.21. Larger sizes and premium materials will raise those figures. For quantities between the listed steps, send your details through Get a Quote.

Does drilling or profile cutting add to the price?

Every dropdown can affect the total, and the price updates live as you change them. Set the size and material first, then switch Drilling and Profile Cut on and off to see the difference. That way you only pay for the finishing your installation needs.

What artwork should I send for a rigid board?

A print-ready PDF at the finished size, such as A1 or 1000 x 500mm, is safest. For double-sided boards send two pages, and for profile cuts include the cut outline as a separate line in your file. If you are unsure how to set this up, ask the studio.

Can you design my site board or sign?

Yes. Choose the Professional artwork and design service (+£72.00) at the artwork step and send your logo, project details and wording. The layout is set up at the size you ordered. For signs that need to meet workplace rules, our safety signs page explains the options.

How should I lay out text on a large board?

Use one headline, a few lines of detail and clear contact information. Leave space around drill holes in the corners so text isn't cut through. People read large boards from a distance, so pick a bold, simple font. Our directional signs service follows the same principles.

How do I order rigid boards online?

Work through size, material, sides printed, lamination, drilling, profile cut and quantity, and watch the price update. Pick your artwork route, add to cart and pay by card at checkout through Stripe, which accepts Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Add extra print from the online print shop.

Who will produce my boards?

WEB PRINT & SIGNS LIMITED in Manchester, a print, signs and web company working since 2003 that has helped over 20,000 UK businesses. Call 0161 315 1151 or email hello@webprintsigns.co.uk with any questions. Read more about Web Print Signs.

Do you deliver rigid boards across the UK?

Yes, boards can be sent anywhere in the UK, and the delivery cost is shown at checkout before you pay. Customers in Bury, Rochdale, Trafford, Sale and the rest of Greater Manchester can also collect from the studio.

Is collection practical for large boards?

Yes, if you bring a vehicle with enough flat space for the size ordered, such as A0 or 1000 x 1000mm. Collection is from Unit 3, 116 Bury New Road, Manchester M8 8EB. Message 07737 902425 on WhatsApp to confirm your order is ready before you set off.

How do construction companies use rigid boards?

For site entrance boards, safety notices, visitor instructions and contractor branding on fencing. Drilled corners make them easy to fix with cable ties or screws. For mesh banners along the full fence line, see our mesh banner printing service.

Can retailers use rigid boards in store?

Yes. Shops hang them from ceilings with top-corner drilling, prop them in windows or fix them to walls for promotions and department names. Profile-cut boards make eye-catching displays. Our point of sale printing page covers other in-store items.

Are rigid boards good for estate agent and property signs?

Yes, they work for development hoardings, show home directions and sales suite panels. Double-sided boards suit signs seen from both directions on a road. For a freestanding option at the entrance, compare Forecourt Pavement Stands.

Can a rigid board replace a shop sign temporarily?

Yes. While a permanent fascia is being made, or for a pop-up shop, a 1000 x 500mm board fixed through drilled corners gives a tidy temporary sign. For the finished version, our fascia signs Manchester service handles design and fitting.
