Quick answers

What sizes do paper placemats come in?

Nine sizes are listed: A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, 1/3 A4 (DL), Square 210mm x 210mm, Square 148mm x 148mm and Square 105mm x 105mm. A3 and A4 are the usual choices for a full table setting, while the smaller sizes suit tray liners and table inserts. For an unlisted size, use Get a Quote.

Which paper types can I choose for placemats?

There are seven: 90gsm, 120gsm, 170gsm and 300gsm Premium Smooth White Paper, 170gsm Art Paper Silk Finish, 350gsm Recycled Uncoated and 300gsm Synaps. The standard specification is 300gsm Premium Smooth White Paper. Lighter sheets keep costs down on big runs; heavier ones feel more solid. Browse the hospitality print range for related items.

How much do printed paper placemats cost?

Prices begin at £33.02 for 25 placemats on the cheapest combination of size, paper and sides. At 1000 the cheapest combination is £66.31, and 20000 comes to £398.30, so large runs are very economical per sheet. Your chosen options set the live price on the page. For runs above 20000, ask via our quote form.

How quickly can placemats be printed?

Placemats usually take around 2 working days to produce. That is a typical turnaround, not a promise, and delivery is added afterwards unless you collect from our Manchester studio. If you are working to an opening date, contact the team before you order.

Can placemats be printed on both sides?

Yes. The Sides Printed dropdown offers Single Sided or Double Sided. Single sided is the standard, which suits most table use. Double sided lets you put a menu on one face and a kids' activity or an offer on the other. For upright table promotions, see Tent Cards.

How many placemats can I order?

Quantities run from 25 all the way to 20000, with steps including 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, 10000 and 15000. A café trialling a design might start at 250, while a chain or busy diner might take 5000 or more. Larger orders can be priced through our team.

Can I collect placemats in Manchester?

Yes. Collection is from Unit 3, 116 Bury New Road, Manchester M8 8EB. UK delivery is also available, with the cost shown at checkout before you pay. The areas we cover page explains where else we work.

Asked by buyers 22

Which paper weight suits a disposable placemat?

For placemats that are binned after each sitting, the lighter stocks such as 90gsm or 120gsm Premium Smooth White Paper keep the cost per sheet low. The heavier 170gsm and 300gsm sheets feel sturdier and suit placemats that also act as the menu. Compare a few combinations on the page to see how the price shifts. Heavier table pieces sit in the menus and hospitality range.

What is 300gsm Synaps?

Synaps is one of the seven paper types in the dropdown, listed at 300gsm. The product page doesn't detail its properties, so if you are considering it for reuse or wiping, ask us about it first. For a menu built to be wiped clean, see Waterproof Menus.

Is there a recycled option for placemats?

Yes, 350gsm Recycled Uncoated is one of the paper choices. It is the heaviest stock in the list and has an uncoated surface, giving a more natural, matt feel. It suits cafés and delis with a relaxed look. Select it in the Paper Type dropdown to see the price for your size and quantity. The same thinking applies to handouts, and Recycled Flyers are available too.

What does the 170gsm Art Paper Silk Finish look like?

Silk has a smooth surface with a gentle sheen, between a matt and a gloss look, which helps photos and colours show well. At 170gsm it is a mid-weight sheet. It is a good choice when your placemat carries food photography or a strong brand colour.

Which placemat size fits a standard dining table setting?

A3 is the usual choice for a full place setting with room for plate, cutlery and glass. A4 suits smaller tables, trays and cafés where space is tight. Measure your tables or trays before you order, and if neither size fits, the square options might.

What are the small sizes like A7 and 105mm square used for?

These smaller sizes aren't full placemats; they suit table inserts, drink tags, tray cards or notes tucked beside a plate. Venues sometimes order them alongside A3 placemats in the same design. For a rigid version under a glass, see Custom Printed Coasters.

What is the 1/3 A4 (DL) size good for?

DL is a long, narrow format, one third of an A4 sheet. On a table it works as a cutlery wrap card, a drinks list or a narrow tray liner. It is also a handy size for a set menu laid across each setting at a function. For standing table cards, see our table talker printing page.

How much do 5000 placemats cost?

On the cheapest combination of options, 5000 placemats come to £128.95. Heavier paper, a larger size or double-sided printing will change that, and the page updates as you choose. High-volume runs like this are where the cost per sheet falls furthest.

Why does double-sided printing cost more?

Printing the second face adds work to every sheet, so the total rises when you pick Double Sided. If the back of the placemat will never be seen on the table, Single Sided keeps the cost down. Try both in the Sides Printed dropdown to compare the live price.

How many placemats does a café typically need?

Count your covers per day and multiply by the days you want the stock to last, then add some spares. A café with 100 covers a day using one placemat each gets through 500 in under a week. Ordering a larger quantity often costs only a little more than a modest one.

How should I prepare artwork for a placemat?

A print-ready PDF at the finished size you have chosen is the safest file. Keep text and logos away from the edges, and remember that plates and cutlery will cover the middle of the sheet. If you need help with set-up, our menu printing Manchester page shows how venues lay out table print.

Can you design a kids' activity placemat?

Yes. Choose Professional artwork and design service (+£36.00) and a designer can lay out puzzles, colouring areas and your branding. Supply your logo and any ideas you want included. If you prefer to brief the job in detail first, email hello@webprintsigns.co.uk.

What content works well on a branded placemat?

A short menu, your logo, opening hours, a social handle or QR code and a seasonal offer are all useful. Keep the busiest content near the top edge, where it won't be hidden by a plate. A QR code can link to online ordering built by our web design team.

What is the process for ordering placemats online?

Choose size, paper type, sides printed and quantity in the dropdowns, and the price updates live. Pick an artwork option, add the placemats to your cart and pay by card through Stripe at checkout, using Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Can I add placemats to an order with menus?

Yes, add them to the same cart and pay once. Placemats and Creased Menus printed in one style give tables a consistent look. Add a matching Table Runner for a function.

Can I order placemats in a size or paper that isn't listed?

The online options cover nine sizes and seven papers. For anything else, such as a tray-specific size, use Get a Quote with your measurements, paper preference and quantity so it can be priced properly.

Can placemats be delivered to my restaurant?

Yes, UK delivery is available and the cost is shown at checkout before you pay. Put the restaurant address in at checkout and make sure someone can receive the boxes, as a run in the thousands can be bulky. Collection in Manchester is the other option.

How soon should I reorder placemats?

Reorder when you have about a week's stock left. With a typical production time of around 2 working days plus delivery, that leaves a comfortable margin. Keeping your print-ready file saved makes repeat orders quick to place. You can also add other items from the shop to the same repeat order.

Which businesses use paper placemats?

Cafés, diners, pizzerias, fish and chip shops, pubs serving food, hotels and event caterers all use them. They double as a menu and a promotional space while protecting tables. For signage outside the same venues, see our shop signs Manchester service.

Are placemats useful for weddings and events?

Yes. A placemat printed with the couple's names, the menu and the order of the day makes a neat table setting. Pair it with matching invitations or a Tablecloth to complete the look.

Can a placemat be used for advertising local businesses?

Yes. Some cafés sell space on their placemats to nearby businesses, which can help cover printing costs. Divide the sheet into clear panels with each advertiser's details. For other local marketing print, see our flyer printing service.
