Quick answers

What does spot UV do on a business card?

Spot UV adds a glossy coating to chosen parts of your design, such as a logo, a name or a pattern, while the rest of the card stays matt. On this product the base is laminated matt on both sides, so the shiny areas stand out against it. Other premium finishes are compared on our luxury business cards page.

Should I choose Spot UV 1 Side or Spot UV 2 Sides?

Pick Spot UV 1 Side when only the front carries a glossy detail, and Spot UV 2 Sides when both faces have areas you want picked out. This works alongside the Sides Printed dropdown, which sets Single Sided or Double Sided print. If you are not sure how the two settings suit your layout, speak to the team before you order.

How much are Spot UV Business Cards?

They start at £56.86 for 250 cards on the cheapest mix of sides and spot UV settings. Switching to Double Sided print or Spot UV 2 Sides moves the total, and the configurator shows the live price for whatever you select. For more than 2000 cards, or a finish not listed, send the details through Get a Quote.

How long do Spot UV Business Cards take to produce?

Expect around 3 working days for production. That is a typical figure rather than a fixed date, and delivery time comes on top if you are not collecting. When the cards are needed for a particular launch or networking event, get in touch first so the timing can be talked through.

What card stock and lamination are used?

Every card is printed on 350gsm Art Board Silk Finish with matt lamination on both sides. These are fixed, so there is no paper or laminate dropdown to choose from, and the corners are left square. If you want a thicker layered card instead, look at Triplex Business Cards.

What quantities are available?

The Quantity dropdown lists 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 cards. There is no run below 250 here, so if you only need a handful for a trial, Recycled Business Cards start at 50. Larger runs beyond 2000 can be priced separately on request.

Can I collect my spot UV cards in Manchester?

Yes. Orders can be picked up from Unit 3, 116 Bury New Road, Manchester M8 8EB. If collection is not practical, UK delivery is available and the charge appears at checkout before you pay. Towns and districts we regularly work with are listed under areas we cover.

Asked by buyers 22

Why is the card laminated matt underneath the spot UV?

The contrast is the point. A Both Sides (Matt) lamination gives a flat, low-sheen surface, so the glossy spot areas read clearly against it in the hand and under light. Without that contrast the effect would be far less noticeable. If you would rather have metallic shine than gloss, see Metallic Foil Business Cards.

Can I swap the 350gsm Art Board for a different stock?

Not on this page. The paper and lamination are fixed, and only the sides, spot UV setting and quantity can be changed. If you have a specific stock or laminate in mind for a spot UV job, describe it on the quote request form and the team will come back with a price.

Will people notice the spot UV by touch as well as sight?

That is one of the reasons people choose it. The finish is picked for its tactile and visual contrast: the coated areas feel and look different from the matt laminate around them, so a logo or name invites a second look. Keep the spot areas to a few strong elements so the contrast stays clear.

Do these cards come with rounded corners?

No. Round Corners is set to None on this product, so every card is trimmed with square corners. If rounded corners matter to your design, Double Sided Creative Business Cards offer a Round Corners option, though they use different papers and no spot UV.

Is there a size choice for these cards?

There is no size dropdown on this page, so the cards come in one format. If your brand calls for a square card, Square Business Cards are the closest match in the range. For a size that is not listed anywhere, a custom price can be worked out on request.

Can I print on the front only and still add spot UV?

Yes. Set Sides Printed to Single Sided and Spot UV to Spot UV 1 Side, and the card carries print and gloss on one face with a plain back. It suits a minimal design where the logo is the whole story. The price updates as soon as both dropdowns are set.

When is Double Sided printing worth it on a spot UV card?

Choose Double Sided when you have more to say than fits on one face, such as services, a map reference or a social handle on the back. It also lets you put a bold logo on the front and contact details behind it. Ideas for laying out both sides are on our business cards Manchester page.

What do 1000 or 2000 spot UV cards cost?

On the cheapest combination, 1000 cards come to £97.99 and 2000 come to £145.34. Your choices for Sides Printed and Spot UV set the real figure, so treat those as starting points and check the configurator once everything is selected. You can compare prices across the whole business cards range.

Does the cost per card drop as I order more?

Yes, the larger runs work out cheaper per card. On the lowest-priced setup, 250 cards are £56.86 and 500 are £77.40, so doubling the order adds far less than double the cost. If you get through cards quickly at events, a larger run usually makes more sense than repeated short runs.

Can I order 3000 or 5000 spot UV cards?

The dropdown stops at 2000, so a bigger run has to be priced separately. Send the quantity, sides and spot UV setting through Get a Quote. It is also worth asking if you need several staff names at volume, as the team can advise on splitting the order.

Do the spot UV settings change the price?

They do. The total refreshes on the page whenever you change the Spot UV dropdown or the print sides, so you can compare Spot UV 1 Side with Spot UV 2 Sides directly. Set the quantity last and you will see exactly what the combination you want costs before it goes in your cart.

How do I mark which areas get the spot UV?

Your file needs to show clearly which parts of the design are to be glossed, separate from the printed colours. Because setups vary, the simplest route is to ask the team how to prepare the spot areas before you send anything. A print-ready PDF at the finished size is the safest base for the main artwork.

What makes a design work well with spot UV?

Restraint. Pick one or two elements to highlight, such as the logo, your name or a repeating pattern across the back, and leave the rest matt. Simple shapes with clean edges make the contrast easy to read. If your logo itself needs work first, look at our Logo and Brand Refresh service.

Can you design the card if I only have a logo and contact details?

Yes. Select the Professional artwork and design service (+£36.00) at the artwork step, and a designer lays out the card and plans where the spot UV goes. It is a sensible option if you have no designer of your own. Otherwise, choose the free print-ready option and upload your own files.

What are the steps to order spot UV cards online?

Choose Sides Printed, then the Spot UV setting, then Quantity, and watch the price change with each pick. Select your artwork option, add the cards to your cart and pay by card at checkout. Other items can join the same order from the online print shop before you pay.

Which payment methods are accepted?

Checkout runs through Stripe and takes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. You pay when you place the order, and any delivery charge is shown before you confirm. Matching stationery can be added from the business stationery range so everything goes through in one payment.

How do I order spot UV cards for several staff members?

Add each person's card to the cart as its own item, with its own artwork, so every name and title is printed correctly. Keeping the same sides and spot UV setting across all of them gives the team a consistent look. Matching items are covered on our corporate stationery page.

Do you deliver spot UV cards outside Manchester?

Yes, cards can go to any UK address, and the delivery cost is calculated at checkout so you see it before paying. Local customers can avoid that charge by collecting from the Bury New Road studio instead. Either way, allow for the production time before the cards are ready.

Who prints these cards?

WEB PRINT & SIGNS LIMITED, a Manchester print, signs and web company trading since 2003 that has worked with over 20,000 UK businesses. You can call 0161 315 1151 or email hello@webprintsigns.co.uk with questions. Find out more about Web Print Signs and the wider services on offer.

Which businesses suit spot UV cards best?

They are popular with creative agencies, consultants, solicitors and anyone who hands cards over in meetings and wants them remembered. Designers in the Northern Quarter and firms in Spinningfields both use them. A strong logo with plenty of matt space around it gives the gloss the most impact.

Should I choose spot UV or metallic foil?

Spot UV gives clear gloss against matt, which suits modern, understated brands. Foil adds colour and metallic shine, such as gold or copper, for a more decorative feel. If your logo works in one flat colour, foil can be striking; if it relies on full colour, spot UV keeps it intact. See Metallic Foil Business Cards to compare.

What stationery pairs well with spot UV cards?

Letterheads and compliment slips in the same colours make the cards part of a set rather than a one-off. Many clients order them together when rebranding. Browse Letterheads and Compliment Slips to build a matching pack for the office.
