Advertisement Consent Hyde
A new illuminated, projecting or large sign for a business in Hyde may need advertisement consent from Tameside Council before it goes up. We design the sign, prepare the drawings and plans, submit the application on your behalf and make and fit the sign once it is approved.

Signs in Hyde that may need consent
In Hyde town centre, around the market and Clarendon Square, older buildings sit alongside newer shopping units, and the council takes an interest in how signs suit the street. Lit signs and projecting signs are the most likely to need an application. Trade suppliers and manufacturers near the M67 often want large signs high on their buildings or freestanding signs at the entrance, which raise their own questions.
Many simple, unlit fascias need no application. We check which applies before anything is made. Our advertisement consent Manchester page explains the general rules.
Working with you
Hyde is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from our office via the M60 and M67, depending on traffic. We visit to measure and photograph the building and the street, then prepare the drawings and the application remotely, sending drafts to you to check.

Designing a sign that fits the building
The simplest way to a smooth application is a sign that suits the building from the start. On older Hyde shopfronts, that often means individual letters on a fascia, with lighting from above rather than a deep internally lit box. On industrial buildings, it usually means keeping signs within the main face of the building rather than above the roofline.
We show you the options on a photo of your actual building, so you can see how each looks and choose before the drawings are finalised. That way the application is for a sign you are happy with.
Freestanding signs need their position shown on a site plan, with their height and distance from the road, because signs near roads must not distract drivers. We measure these on site.
Landlord approval is separate and often required. For the sign itself, see illuminated signs and fascia signs, or shop signs Hyde.
What to send first
- Photos of the building from across the road
- The type and rough size of sign you want
- Whether it should be lit
- Whether the building is listed, if you know
Plan the timing. The council needs several weeks to decide, and the sign is only made after consent is granted, so a fixed opening date needs the application in well before. Tell us your date when you first get in touch and we will work back from it, booking the survey quickly and keeping the drawings moving.
If you are taking over a unit with an existing sign, it is worth checking whether that sign had consent. If it did not, changing it may be a good moment to put things right.
Frequently asked questions
Which council handles Hyde sign applications?
Hyde is in Tameside, so Tameside Council is the local planning authority.
Does my sign need consent?
It depends on size, position and lighting. Send photos and details and we will tell you whether an application looks needed.
How long does it take?
Several weeks for the decision, plus the survey and drawings before and production after.
Is the council fee in your quote?
Yes. We include it so you see the full cost.
Can I put the sign up while waiting?
It is safer to wait, as an unapproved sign that needed consent can face enforcement.
What if it is refused?
We review the reasons, revise the design and discuss submitting again.
