Signs that work on a main road and a trading estate

The town centre sits around Crown Point on the A57 Hyde Road, a busy route where many people pass by car or bus rather than on foot. A sign there has a few seconds to register, so the name needs to be large, the background plain and the line about what you do short. Takeaways and late-opening shops also need to stand out after dark, which usually means lit lettering, trough lighting or an illuminated projecting box.

Trade suppliers and manufacturers have a different problem. Customers and couriers arrive by van, often off the M60 or the start of the M67 at junction 24, and need to spot the right unit quickly. A clear building sign, a gate panel and directional boards matter more here than decoration. Signs may need advertisement consent from the council, especially when illuminated or in a conservation area, and we check this with you before anything is made. Landlord permission may also be needed. The materials and sign types we use are explained on the shop signs Manchester page.

A site visit before anything is designed

Signs cannot be quoted properly from a photo alone, so we come out to your premises. The drive from our office in M8 takes roughly 20 to 25 minutes via the A57 or the M60, depending on traffic. On the visit we measure the fascia and any glass, look at what the old sign is hiding, test whether the brick, render or timber will take fixings, and check where cables can run for lighting. We also note access: whether ladders will do or a tower is needed, and where a van can stop on a busy road. Drafts and approvals then go back and forth by email and WhatsApp, production runs through our production network, and our fitters return to install.

Steps from first visit to fitted sign

1

Measure and photograph

We record sizes, fixing points, access and power, and talk about what the sign must say.

2

Draw the design

You get a mock-up placed on a photo of your actual frontage, at true scale.

3

Check permissions

We discuss whether advertisement consent or landlord approval is likely before anything is ordered.

4

Produce the sign

Panels, letters and vinyl are made to the agreed drawing, with materials chosen for the position.

5

Fit and finish

Our fitters take down the old sign where agreed, fix the new one securely and leave the frontage tidy. Any lighting is wired by a qualified electrician.

Included in your fixed quote

  • An on-site survey with measurements and photos
  • Design and a scaled mock-up on your own frontage
  • Production in outdoor-grade materials
  • Removal of the old sign where agreed
  • Fitting with fixings matched to your wall or fascia
  • Photos of the finished sign and care notes

Choosing the right sign for your type of Denton premises

Different frontages call for different answers. As a rough guide:

  • Shops and takeaways on the main road. A flat aluminium composite fascia with cut vinyl or raised acrylic letters, plus a projecting sign so people walking along the pavement see you side-on.
  • Salons, clinics and care offices. Frosted vinyl at desk height for privacy, with your name and opening hours on the glass and a smaller, tidy fascia.
  • Trade counters and suppliers. A large panel readable from the road, opening hours by the door and a separate board showing where to park or load.
  • Workshops and factories. Building signs high on the wall, gate signs and directional boards around the yard so drivers find goods in.

See our illuminated signs for lit options and directional signs for yards and car parks.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you fit a sign on a busy stretch of the A57 in Denton?

Yes. On the survey we look at where a van can park safely and whether the pavement needs coning off while we work. We agree a fitting time with you that keeps disruption low, and plan the job so the frontage is not left half done.

Our unit is on an estate with other tenants. Can you match the existing signs?

Usually. Many estates have a set panel size or colour scheme for each unit. Send us any guidance from your landlord or managing agent and we will design within it and supply drawings for their approval before production.

What is the difference between built-up letters and a printed fascia?

A printed or vinyl fascia is a flat panel with your design applied to it. Built-up letters stand off the background, giving depth and shadow, and can be lit from behind for a halo effect. Letters cost more to make but read well from a distance.

Do you also do window graphics and opening-hours vinyl?

We do, and it is often worth doing at the same time as the fascia so colours and fonts match. Cut vinyl suits opening hours and phone numbers, while printed or frosted film works for full window panels and privacy.
