Getting noticed on Cheadle High Street and beyond

The village High Street is a run of independent frontages, many in older buildings where the fascia sits between upper windows and the shop glass. A sign there has to fit that band neatly and be readable from the far pavement and from passing cars.

Out by the business park and the retail area beside the A34, the job changes. Buildings are set back, people arrive by car, and your name may need to be read from a car park or an access road. Here, larger lettering, post-mounted or wall signs and clear entrance markings help visitors find the right door. Landlords and managing agents often set rules on size and colour, so we ask for those early.

A sign may need advertisement consent from the council, especially when illuminated or in a conservation area, and we check this with you before anything is made. The way we design and install is set out on our Manchester shop signs page.

Do you survey and fit at my premises?

Every sign starts with a visit. A member of our team comes to the premises, measures the fascia or wall, takes photographs straight on and from both directions along the street, and checks what the surface is made of and where secure fixings can go. We also look at access: whether a ladder is enough or a tower is needed, where a van can stop for loading. Our Cheetham Hill office is roughly 30 to 35 minutes away by road, via the city centre and the A34 or using the M60, depending on traffic. After the survey, visuals and approvals are handled by email, phone or WhatsApp, the sign is produced through our production network, and our fitters return to install it.

How does a sign job run, from survey to fitting?

1

Visit and measurements

We record sizes, surface type, fixing points, power for any lighting and access for the fitting.

2

Visual on your building

We place the proposed design onto a photo of your own frontage so you can see scale and colour before deciding.

3

Consent and landlord checks

We talk through any consent or lease permission with you and prepare drawings if an application is required.

4

Production

After you sign off the artwork, sizes and fixings, the sign is made through our production network.

5

Installation

Our fitters take down the old sign, make good where needed and fix the new one, with any lighting wired by a qualified electrician.

What is included in a shop sign job?

  • An on-site survey with measurements and photographs
  • Design visuals shown on a photo of your premises
  • Final artwork and a fixing specification for you to approve
  • Drawings for a consent application if one is needed
  • Taking down and disposing of the old sign
  • Fitting by our fitters, with lighting connected by an electrician

Choosing the right sign for your type of premises

Some common starting points by type of business:

  • Cafes and restaurants: a fascia plus a hanging sign so people walking along the pavement see you before they reach the door, and window lettering for opening hours.
  • Clinics and practices: a calm, clear fascia, a plaque or panel by the entrance with practitioner names, and frosted window film for privacy in treatment rooms.
  • Retail units by the main road: larger letters sized for reading from a car, and possibly illumination for dark winter evenings.
  • Offices and trade units: a wall sign at the entrance plus directional panels so visitors find the right unit.

For glazing ideas, our window graphics page explains the films and lettering available, and directional signs covers wayfinding around shared sites.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you fit a sign while our Cheadle shop stays open?

In most cases, yes. We plan the fitting for a quieter time of day, keep the working area coned off on the pavement and keep the entrance clear where possible. If a tower is needed, we agree the timing with you in advance.

Do you also sign units in the Cheadle business park?

Yes. Office and business park units often need the landlord or managing agent to approve the design and position. We supply them with visuals, sizes and fixing details, and agree site access, parking and any safety paperwork they ask for before our fitters arrive.

Is an illuminated sign worth it for a shop that closes at six?

It depends on the season and your location. In winter it is dark well before six, so lighting can help. We also consider whether power is near the fascia and whether consent is likely to be needed, then suggest lit or unlit options with a fixed quote for each.

Can you match the sign to our existing logo and shop colours?

Yes. Send us your logo files and we match colours to standard vinyl, paint or acrylic references. Where a logo only exists as a small image, we redraw it so the letters stay sharp at fascia size, and you approve the result before production.

Shop signs for Didsbury, Bramhall and Stockport too

We also install shop signs in Didsbury, signage for Bramhall shops and Stockport shop signs. Our shop signs service across Manchester gives the full picture, and all our services in Cheadle are listed in one place.
