Measuring from our Brierfield base

Being next door to Burnley, we can measure on site easily. For simpler signs, photos with a tape measure across the face are often enough. Include a close-up of the edge, which shows how the face is held in the frame.

Signs in Burnley face a lot of wind and rain as well as sun. Faces need to fit snugly so water does not get into the box, and trims need to seal properly once the new face is in. When we fit, we check the seals and clean out the inside of the box, where water marks, dust and insects build up and show through a new face once it is lit.

Polycarbonate faces are worth choosing for low signs and projecting boxes that might be knocked; acrylic suits higher signs and keeps its colour well. For lit signs, we use faces and inks made for illuminated signs, so colours look right after dark.

Flat fascias without lighting can usually be refreshed with new vinyl over the cleaned panel, a quick change with no new holes in the wall.

Gate signs and totems at works along the M65 usually have panels that slide into a channel. When a company name or logo changes, we make a new panel to the exact size and swap it without taking the structure apart, which is far quicker than replacing the whole sign.

Projecting signs are double-sided, and we replace both faces together so the colours match.
