Freshening up a Hyde frontage
Independent shops and food businesses around Hyde Market and the town centre streets often have lightboxes that have been up for many years. Printed colours fade, acrylic yellows and cracks appear around the fixing points. Trade suppliers and manufacturers have signs above trade counters and offices that fade the same way.
When the box and lighting are sound, a new face makes the sign look new at a fraction of the work. It is also the quickest way to put your name on a unit with an existing sign. Our sign face replacement Manchester page explains more.
Measuring your sign
Hyde is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from our office via the M60 and M67, depending on traffic. Many signs can be measured from photos with a tape measure in shot. High or projecting signs are better measured on site.

Trade counters and market-side shops
Trade counters need their name and what they sell to be readable from the road and the car park. Over time, faded faces lose that. A new face with strong contrast and large lettering fixes it. We keep the essentials big and clear, and leave smaller detail such as brand logos and opening hours to the doors and windows.
Shops near the market often have a projecting sign as well as the fascia. These are double-sided, and the face that catches the sun fades first. We replace both faces together so they match, and check the bracket while we have the sign down.
For signs within reach of the pavement, polycarbonate faces are worth choosing. They resist knocks far better than acrylic and keep their shape on a busy street.
We replace faces and vinyl only. If tubes or LEDs have failed, a qualified electrician needs to fix them first. For new signs, see illuminated signs or fascia signs, and shop signs Hyde for local frontages.
Flat fascias without lighting can often be refreshed with new vinyl over a cleaned panel, which is quick and needs no new fixings in the wall.
Photos that help
- The whole sign, taken straight on
- A close-up of the edge or trim
- A tape measure across the face
- Your logo files if you have them
When we fit, we also clean inside the box. Years of dust and insects inside a lightbox make even a new face look dull when lit, so a quick clean while it is open makes a visible difference.
What do customers ask before ordering?
Can you fit a new face on my Hyde shop sign after closing?
Yes. Evening and weekend fitting can be arranged so you keep trading.
Can you replace just one side of a projecting sign?
Yes, but a new face next to a faded one looks uneven, so we usually suggest replacing both.
What material should I choose?
Polycarbonate for low or exposed signs, acrylic for higher ones.
Do you repair the lights?
No. We replace faces and vinyl only. Lighting faults need a qualified electrician.
Do I need my original artwork?
It helps, but we can redraw simple lettering and logos or work from a good photo.
What if the frame is rusted?
A new face will not last in a damaged frame. We will tell you and quote for a new sign instead.
