Oldham signs that are due a refresh

Many Oldham businesses are family-run and have kept the same sign for a long time. The structure and lighting are often still sound, but printed colours fade, acrylic yellows and cracks spread from the corners. Restaurants and takeaways that light their signs every evening see this faster.

A new face is also the quickest way for a new business to put its name on a unit with an existing sign frame. Our sign face replacement Manchester page explains the general service.

Measuring the frame

Oldham is roughly 20 to 25 minutes from our office along the A62, depending on traffic. Many signs can be measured from photos with a tape measure across the face. Larger, higher or projecting signs we measure in person, so the new face fits the frame exactly.

Include a close-up of the edge of the sign in your photos. It shows whether the face slides out of a channel, sits behind a clip-on trim or is screwed in from the front.

Updating a long-standing family sign

When a business has had the same sign for many years, customers recognise it, and some owners want to keep its look while making it fresh. If the original artwork is lost, we can redraw the lettering and logo from photos of the existing sign, cleaning up any details that have faded or cracked, so the new face looks like the sign customers know, only new.

Others use the refresh as a chance to update the branding. Either way, the new face fits the old frame, so there is no new structure on the building and no new holes in the wall.

For restaurant signs that are lit every night, we choose materials and inks made for illuminated signs, and check that colours look right both lit and unlit. Deep reds and dark blues can look very different with light behind them, so we check before production.

We do not work on lighting. If a sign has dark sections, a qualified electrician needs to repair them, and we fit the face afterwards. For brand new signs, see illuminated signs or fascia signs, and shop signs Oldham.

Flat fascias without lighting are often refreshed with new vinyl over the cleaned panel instead, which changes the frontage in a few hours.

What do customers ask before ordering?

We have had our Oldham sign for twenty years. Can you recreate it?

Yes. We can redraw the lettering and logo from photos of the existing sign and make a new face that keeps the familiar look.

Can you fit after the restaurant closes?

Yes. Evening and weekend fitting can be arranged.

Which material should we use?

Acrylic for high signs, polycarbonate for low or exposed signs that might get knocked.

Do you repair the lights?

No. We replace faces and vinyl only. Lighting faults need a qualified electrician.

Can just the vinyl on our fascia be replaced?

Yes, if the panel is sound. We strip the old vinyl and glue and apply new lettering.

What if the frame is rusted?

A new face will not last in a damaged frame. We will say so and quote for a new sign.
