Sign Removal Ashton-under-Lyne

When a shop, takeaway or trade counter in Ashton-under-Lyne changes hands, the old sign is usually the first thing to go. We remove fascia panels, letters, projecting signs, lightbox signs and window vinyl, including signs at height, and leave the frontage clear for whoever comes next.

Old signs on Ashton frontages

Around the market and the Arcades, many units have had several businesses over the years, and it is common to find a newer sign fixed straight over an older one. Behind that there may be a timber fascia board that has been drilled many times. Out at the retail and trade units near Ashton Moss, signs are larger and higher, and often fixed to cladding rather than brick.

Both need a different approach. Layered signs come off one at a time so we can see what each is fixed to, and cladding fixings have to be removed without tearing the panel. Our sign removal Manchester page explains the service in general terms.

Visiting and quoting

Small fascias can often be quoted from photos. For anything high, heavy, illuminated or projecting over the pavement, we visit to check the fixings, the access and where equipment can stand. Ashton-under-Lyne is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from our M8 office, depending on traffic, so visits are easy to arrange.

How the removal goes

1

Look at the sign

From photos or on site, we check size, fixings and height.

2

Agree the price

One fixed quote covers removal and waste.

3

Supply off

For lit signs, a qualified electrician isolates the power before we start.

4

Down safely

We unfix and lower panels and letters with the area below kept clear.

5

Leave it tidy

Fixings come out, waste goes with us and you see what is behind.

What you get

  • Fascia trays, panels and letters removed
  • Projecting signs and their brackets taken down
  • Old window vinyl and film scraped from the glass
  • Access equipment for high signs
  • Every piece of waste taken away
  • Photos of the frontage once the sign is off

Signs on retail and trade units

Bigger units often have a large aluminium tray or individual letters several metres up, sometimes with a separate projecting sign or a totem by the car park entrance. These jobs need proper access equipment and a plan for lowering long panels without swinging them into the building or the car park. We look at ground conditions, where the equipment can go and whether part of the car park needs to be closed off while we work.

If you are moving in, the new sign can go up straight after the old one comes down, using our shop signs and fascia signs services. The shop signs Ashton-under-Lyne page covers new signs in the town.

Leaving a unit is different. Read the lease first, because some landlords want the fascia board left intact for the next tenant while others want the frontage back to how it was before your sign went up. We work to whatever the landlord asks.

Window lettering is often forgotten until the end. Old vinyl on shop windows hardens over time and breaks into small flakes when you try to peel it. We soften it, take it off with glass scrapers and clean away the glue, so the glass is clear for the next tenant or ready for new window graphics.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove a sign from a unit in the Ashton Arcades area?

Yes. Shopping centre units often have rules about when contractors can work, so we check those with you and the centre management before booking.

Do you remove illuminated signs?

Yes, once a qualified electrician has made the supply safe. We do not carry out electrical work.

Can you work in the evening?

Evening and weekend removal can be arranged, which helps on busy frontages and in units that stay open.

Will you repair the wall afterwards?

We remove the fixings and show you what is behind. Any repairs to brickwork, render or the fascia board are pointed out so they can be arranged before a new sign goes up.
