Town centre shops and out-of-town units
Bolton town centre mixes older buildings with units in Market Place and Crompton Place. Older frontages often have a timber fascia board behind the sign that has been reused for years, and shopping centre units come with rules about when contractors can work. Out at Middlebrook and the trade parks near junction 6 of the M61, signs are larger, higher and fixed to cladding.
The way a sign is fixed decides how it comes down. Our sign removal Manchester page describes the general service, and the details below are what we check on Bolton jobs.
Seeing the sign first
Simple fascias can usually be priced from photos. High signs, illuminated signs and projecting signs need a visit so we can check fixings, access and where equipment can stand safely. Bolton is roughly 25 to 35 minutes from our M8 office, depending on traffic, so a survey visit is easy to arrange.

Large signs on retail and trade parks
A sign several metres up on a retail or trade unit needs proper access equipment and a plan. We check the ground where the equipment will stand, whether part of the car park needs closing off, and how long panels can be lowered without catching the building. Letters fixed to cladding come off one at a time, with their locators removed so the cladding is left as intact as possible.
Totems and post signs by the entrance are a separate job. Faces can usually be taken out without removing the structure, which suits a new tenant who wants to reuse it. If the structure itself is coming out, we discuss what lies below ground before we quote.
Moving in? We can take the old sign down and put yours up as one job using our shop signs and fascia signs services, with the local side covered on shop signs Bolton.
What do customers ask before ordering?
Can you remove signs from a Bolton shopping centre unit?
Yes. Centre management usually sets working hours and paperwork for contractors, so we check those with you and the centre before booking a date.
Do you remove illuminated signs?
Yes, after a qualified electrician has isolated the supply. We do not do electrical work ourselves.
Can the work be done after hours?
Evening and weekend removal can be arranged, which suits busy frontages and units that stay open.
What will the wall look like afterwards?
We remove the fixings and show you the surface behind. Holes or damaged areas are pointed out so they can be repaired before a new sign goes up.
How do you deal with a sign fixed to cladding?
Letters and trays on cladding are unfixed one at a time and their locators taken out carefully, so the cladding panels are left as intact as possible. We point out any holes or dents so the landlord or the next sign maker knows what is there.
Can you leave the bracket for my new projecting sign?
Yes. If the existing bracket is sound and the right size, we leave it in place and check its fixings, which saves drilling new holes in the wall for your sign.
