Hyde signs and what they are fixed to

Hyde town centre has older shopfronts with timber fascia boards, some with several signs fixed on top of each other, alongside units in the Clarendon Square shopping centre where centre management sets the rules for contractors. Manufacturers and trade suppliers on the edge of town have larger signs on brick or metal cladding, often several metres up.

The fixing method decides how a sign should come down and what equipment is needed. Our sign removal Manchester page explains the service in general.

Survey and quote

Hyde is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from our office via the M60 and M67, depending on traffic. Simple fascias can often be priced from photos. High, lit or projecting signs need a visit to check fixings, power, access and where equipment can stand.

Shopping centre units and industrial buildings

Units in a shopping centre usually have rules about when contractors can work, what paperwork is needed and how the area is protected. We check these with you and the centre management, then work within them, often early in the morning or after closing.

On industrial buildings, the challenge is height and cladding. Panels and letters fixed through metal cladding come off one fixing at a time so the sheet is not torn. Access equipment needs firm, level ground, and on busy sites we agree with the site manager where we can work and how vehicles will get past.

Old timber fascias in the town centre need gentle handling. When several signs have been fixed on top of each other, the board underneath may have dozens of old screw holes. We take each layer off in turn and show you the condition of the board, so you can decide whether to reuse it or replace it before the next sign goes up.

New tenant? We can remove the old sign and fit your new one together with our shop signs and fascia signs services. The shop signs Hyde page covers new signs locally.

What to have ready

  • Photos of the sign and the frontage
  • Any shopping centre or site contractor rules
  • An electrician lined up if the sign is lit
  • Your landlord’s expectations for the frontage

Old window lettering is part of most jobs. Vinyl that has been on shop glass for years hardens and breaks into flakes, so we soften it, scrape it off with glass blades and clean the window.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove a sign from a unit in Clarendon Square?

Yes. We follow the centre’s rules on working hours and paperwork and agree a time with centre management.

Do you remove signs from factory buildings?

Yes, including high signs on cladding. We survey first to plan access and agree working areas with the site.

Do you disconnect lit signs?

No. A qualified electrician must isolate the supply, and then we remove the sign.

Can you work in the evening?

Yes. Evening and weekend removal can be arranged.

Will the frontage be damaged?

Old fixings leave holes and boards can be weak. We show you what is behind and point out repairs needed.

Do you take the waste?

Yes. Everything we remove goes with us.
