Sign Removal Bury

Shops and units in Bury change hands often, and the outgoing business’s sign usually has to come off before anything else can happen. We remove fascias, letters, lightboxes, projecting signs and window vinyl, including signs high on the building, and take every piece away so the frontage is ready for its next use.

Bury frontages and what is behind them

Around the market, The Rock and the Millgate centre, Bury has a mix of older terraced shopfronts and newer retail units. Older frontages often have a timber fascia board under the sign, sometimes with two or three earlier signs layered on top of each other. Newer units usually have aluminium trays or letters fixed into brick, render or cladding.

Each needs a different approach. Layered signs come off one at a time so we can see what holds each layer, and older boards need care so they are not pulled off the wall with the sign. Our sign removal Manchester page describes the service in general.

Surveys and quotes

Bury is roughly 25 to 35 minutes straight up Bury New Road from our office, depending on traffic, so a visit is easy to arrange. Simple fascias can often be priced from photos. High signs, lit signs and projecting signs need a look in person, so we can check fixings, power and where access equipment can stand.

Our removal steps

1

Look and measure

We check the sign, the fixings and the height.

2

Agree a price

One fixed quote covers removal and waste.

3

Power isolated

For lit signs, a qualified electrician makes the supply safe first.

4

Remove and lower

Panels, letters and brackets come down with the pavement kept clear.

5

Tidy and report

Fixings come out, waste goes with us and we photograph what is left.

What is included

  • Fascia panels, trays and letters taken down
  • Projecting signs and brackets removed
  • Old window vinyl and film scraped off
  • Access equipment for signs at height
  • All waste taken away

Layered signs and old timber boards

It is common in Bury to find a modern sign screwed over an older one, which is itself over the original painted board. As each layer comes off we check what is underneath. If the timber board behind is sound, it may be reusable for the next sign. If it is rotten or split, we show you, because fitting a new sign to a weak board is a false saving.

On rented premises, check what the lease says before we start. Some landlords want only your sign removed and the board left as found, while others want the frontage cleared back to the wall. If you are taking the unit on, we can remove the old sign and fit your new one together, using our shop signs and fascia signs services, with local detail on shop signs Bury.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove a sign near Bury Market on a busy day?

We plan around market days and busy times where we can, and evening or weekend work can be arranged so the pavement is quieter.

Do you remove lit signs?

Yes, once a qualified electrician has isolated the supply. We do not carry out electrical work.

What if there are several old signs under mine?

We remove each layer in turn and quote for what we expect from the photos. If we find more than expected, we tell you before carrying on.

Will you fill the holes?

We remove the fixings and show you what is behind. Holes and damaged areas are pointed out so they can be repaired before a new sign is fitted.

Do I need council permission to take a sign down?

Removing a sign does not usually need consent, but on a listed building check with the council before any work to the frontage, and always check your lease.

Can you take down signs inside the shop as well?

Yes. Internal signs, wall graphics and old window film can be removed in the same visit.

We also take signs down in Prestwich, Heywood, Bolton and Rochdale. See the Bury print and signage page for our other local services.
