Rochdale’s mix of buildings

Rochdale town centre has fine Victorian buildings, including the well known Town Hall, alongside newer shopping at Rochdale Riverside and the Exchange shopping centre. Older streets have shopfronts with timber fascias, often carrying several generations of signs. At Kingsway Business Park and the estates near the M62, manufacturers and distributors have large signs fixed to cladding, often well above head height.

Older buildings need gentle work so fixings do not damage stone or brick, while industrial buildings need proper access equipment. Our sign removal Manchester page describes the general service.

Surveying the job

Rochdale is roughly 30 to 35 minutes from our office via the A664 or the M60 and M62, depending on traffic. Small shop signs can often be priced from photos. High, lit or projecting signs, and anything on an older building, are best seen in person so we can check the fixings, the surface behind and the access needed.

Older buildings and business parks

On Victorian buildings in the town centre, signs were often fixed with large screws into timber plugs or straight into mortar joints. Pulled out by force, these can crack stone and brick faces. We cut, unscrew or drill fixings out instead, leaving clean holes that a builder can fill or point. If a building is listed, check with the council before any work on the frontage.

At Kingsway and other business parks, the challenge is height and traffic. Letters and panels on cladding come off one fixing at a time so the sheet is not torn, and we agree with the site where equipment can stand and how vehicles get past. Totem faces can be taken out without removing the structure if the next tenant wants to reuse it.

Shopping centre units have their own rules on contractors and working hours, which we check with you and the centre before booking.

Moving in? We can remove the old sign and fit yours in one job using shop signs and fascia signs. The shop signs Rochdale page covers new signs locally.

Restaurant and takeaway lightboxes are wired in and heavier than they look, so your electrician isolates the supply first. Then we take out the face, unfix the box and lower it with the pavement fenced off. Old window lettering and posters are scraped off the glass and the adhesive cleaned away in the same visit.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove a sign from a Victorian building in Rochdale without damage?

We remove fixings without levering against the stone or brick, which avoids most damage. Holes remain, and we show you where they are.

Do you work on Kingsway Business Park?

Yes. We survey first to plan access and agree working areas with the site.

Do you disconnect lit signs?

No. A qualified electrician isolates the supply before we start.

Can you work out of hours?

Yes. Evening and weekend removal can be arranged.

What happens to the old sign?

We take it away with all the fixings, unless you want to keep it.

Should I check with my landlord?

Yes. Many leases have rules about signs and the frontage, so check what the landlord expects.
