Sign Removal Leigh

In Leigh, signs come down for all sorts of reasons: a high street shop closing, a maker leaving a unit at the mill, a logistics firm moving along the A580. We take down fascias, lettering, hanging signs, lightboxes and window vinyl, at height where needed, remove the fixings and take the lot away.

Three kinds of Leigh building

The town centre, around Spinning Gate and the main shopping streets, has traditional shopfronts and newer units, many with fascias that have been replaced more than once. Leigh Spinners Mill, a large former cotton mill now let to smaller businesses and creative tenants, has signs fixed to old brick and stone, often on brackets or boards near individual entrances. Along the A580 are bigger logistics and trade buildings with large panels on cladding.

Old mill brickwork in particular needs care: fixings pulled out roughly can take chunks of brick or mortar with them. The general service is set out on the sign removal Manchester page.

Arranging a look at the sign

Leigh is roughly 35 to 45 minutes from our office along the A580, depending on traffic. Window lettering and small boards can usually be priced from photos. Anything high up, lit, projecting or fixed to old masonry is worth seeing in person first, and we can combine several units at the mill in one visit.

What we do on the day

1

Confirm the plan

We recheck fixings, access and where the waste will go.

2

Make it safe

Any lit sign must already be isolated by a qualified electrician.

3

Remove fixings carefully

Screws, plugs and brackets come out without levering against old brick.

4

Lower the sign

Panels and letters come down under control, with the area below kept clear.

5

Leave it clean

Waste goes with us and we photograph the wall for your records.

Included

  • Fascia boards, trays, letters and hanging signs removed
  • Brackets taken out or left in place on request
  • Window vinyl and film scraped off
  • Access equipment for high signs
  • Disposal of everything removed
  • A record of the wall’s condition afterwards

Old brickwork, plugs and making good

Signs on older buildings were often fixed with whatever was to hand at the time: large screws into timber plugs, expanding bolts, sometimes fixings straight into the mortar joints. Pulling these out with force can crack brick faces. We cut, unscrew or drill them out as needed, so the wall is left with clean holes rather than broken brick.

What you do with those holes afterwards depends on what comes next. If a new sign is going in the same place, the old holes may be reused or sit behind it. If the wall is staying bare, they will need filling or pointing, which a builder can do, and we tell you which holes are where.

For new tenants, we can remove the previous sign and fit yours on the same visit using our shop signs and fascia signs services. The local detail is on shop signs Leigh.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove signs from several units at the mill in one day?

Yes, if the tenants or the building owner agree. Grouping units cuts travel and keeps disruption in shared corridors and yards to one visit.

Will the brickwork be damaged?

We remove fixings without levering against the brick, which avoids most damage. Holes are left, and we show you where they are.

Can you take down a sign on a logistics building along the A580?

Yes. We survey first to plan access equipment, ground conditions and how vehicles get past while we work.

Who disconnects the power to a lit sign?

A qualified electrician. We do not carry out any electrical work, but we can coordinate the timing with yours.

Can I keep the old sign?

Yes. Some owners keep old signs for sentimental reasons. Tell us beforehand and we will lower it carefully and leave it with you.

Can removal happen out of hours?

Evenings and weekends can be arranged, which often suits shared buildings and busy streets.
