Burnley buildings and their signs

Burnley’s town centre has a mix of traditional shopfronts and newer units, many with fascias replaced several times over the years. The town’s textile history means plenty of businesses work from former mill buildings, around the Weavers’ Triangle by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and elsewhere, where signs are fixed to old stone and brick. Along the M65, engineering and manufacturing firms have larger signs on modern cladding.

Old stonework needs particular care, because fixings pulled out roughly can crack the stone. Our sign removal Manchester page sets out the general service.

Local to Burnley

With a base in Brierfield, Burnley is a short drive away, so we can look at a sign without a long wait. Simple fascias can often be priced from photos; signs on old buildings, lit signs and anything high are best seen in person, so we can check fixings, the surface behind and the access needed.

Signs on old mill buildings

Mill buildings were built to last, and so were many of the fixings put into them over the years: big screws into timber plugs, expanding bolts, brackets set into the stone. Levering these out can split stone faces. We cut, unscrew or drill them out instead, support the sign as it comes away and leave clean holes that a builder can fill or point.

Many mill buildings now house several businesses, so access is shared. We coordinate with the building owner and neighbouring tenants, keep shared yards and entrances clear, and work at quieter times if that helps.

If a building is listed, check with the council before any work on its exterior. For the new sign once the old one is gone, see our shop signs and fascia signs services, and our Burnley signs page for local work.

On industrial units along the M65, letters on cladding are removed one fixing at a time so the sheet is not torn, and we agree with the site where access equipment can stand.

Town centre shops and takeaways often have lightboxes wired into the building. Your electrician isolates the supply first, then we take out the face, unfix the box and lower it, with the pavement fenced off. Old window lettering and posters are scraped from the glass and the adhesive cleaned away in the same visit, so the next business starts with clear windows.

What do customers ask before ordering?

Can you remove a sign from a mill building in Burnley without damaging the stone?

We remove fixings without levering against the stone, which avoids most damage. Holes remain, and we show you where they are.

How quickly can you look at a Burnley sign?

Our Brierfield base is next to Burnley, so a survey is usually easy to arrange soon after you get in touch.

Do you disconnect lit signs?

No. A qualified electrician isolates the supply before we start.

Can you work out of hours?

Yes. Evening and weekend removal can be arranged.

Can I keep the old sign?

Yes. Tell us beforehand and we will lower it carefully and leave it with you.

Do you take the waste?

Yes, everything we remove goes with us unless you want it kept.

Across Pendle and East Lancashire

From Brierfield we take signs down across Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Padiham and the surrounding area. See our Burnley signs page for everything else we do locally.
